Fall Tops from Walmart & Banana Republic Factory

We are officially in late summer and you may find yourself tired of shorts, tanks, and sundresses and instead dreaming of cozy flannels, sweaters, and boots. You know that feeling, your heart is saying pile on the layers and sip your PSL but your brain is saying heat stroke. What to do? Try transitioning your wardrobe with a few new pieces you can wear now and later. I found some affordable yet fashionable fall tops from Walmart and Banana Republic Factory.
Wardrobe Assessment
Since I’ve embarked on this journey of shopping smarter and having redefined my style, I did a wardrobe assessment and closet clean out. One thing I noticed was that I was lacking short sleeve tops for fall. Beyond basic tees, I just don’t own many short sleeve tops – who knew??? This is a great time to take stock of what you have and what you need to pitch. Get rid of anything that no longer fits, has holes, stains, pilling, etc. This includes shoes too – if it isn’t something that can be fixed by a cobbler then it’s time to part ways. You deserve better!
How Tops Can Transform Your Summer to Fall Look
Tops are an easy way to transition from summer to fall. Basically your basic bottoms can mix and match with these tops and you’ll feel like you are wearing a whole new outfit!
If you live in a warmer climate like I do look for short sleeves in lighter fabrics in fall colors. That’s the easiest way to make that transition. This will allow you to wear shorts, pants, or skirts without overheating.
Walmart Tops by Free Assembly
Free Assembly is my favorite line at Walmart. While they have some inventory in store, I find the best selection is online. You can return these pieces in store for free btw and shipping is free over $35.
My friend Nanette from Sweet Fringe Benefits shared this pretty poplin popover blouse on Instagram. With the slight puff sleeve detail and the 3/4 length. The cotton is sturdy and the vertical stripe is so attractive. I am wearing it in a medium. It comes in 3 other colorways.

Free Assembly makes quality knitwear. I still have a sweater from last year and will wear it again this year. I love this polo rugby sweater and chose it in black as well. I love the collar and the v-neck. It does come in 2 other colorways.

This was my black sweater from last year, it is still one of my favorites! But I have to say that I do like the v-neck on the rugby sweater too.

Banana Republic Factory
Banana Republic has the aesthetic I love – quality staples that exude sophistication. The price tag is a bit higher than I’d like so Banana Republic Factory is a great alternative.
This button dolman sleeve top is perfect alone or worn under something (like a blazer!). It could be worn casually or for work. It comes in 3 colorways and I am wearing a small. It feels so good on!

Denim or chambray shirts can be too hot for late summer, early fall. This tencel boxy shirt is lightweight and looks great on. It’s a button down and comes in 2 shades. I am wearing a small.

This silky collar blouse is yet another versatile piece. It comes in a total of 4 colorways, I am wearing a small petite. I did try it on in store and would have grabbed a regular small but grabbed this one by accident. I’m fine with it because I don’t need it to be any longer than it is. Again, this would be marvelous with any bottom dressed up or down.

When I tell you there were so many other wonderful pieces I wanted at BRF I am not even kidding. I could have easily left with more but I am trying to be cognizant of the fact that I don’t need much since I work from home. But below I have put together a few items that really caught my eye!
