It’s really a shame I have such a casual lifestyle now because I sure do love tailored, dressed up pieces like blazers and vests. Since the love is strong, I have discovered ways to incorporate them into my wardrobe. Spending so much time on the internet and following fashionistas all over had me craving one item in particular. The long line tweed vest. I debated back and forth but I think we all now how it ended. So today I bring you Style Over 50: Is a Sleeveless Vest for You?

Style Over 50: Is a Sleeveless Vest for You?
Many of us over the age of 50 aren’t too excited to bare our arms. I get it. Right around my 55th birthday I started noticing crepey skin on my arms and legs. It seemed to happen overnight! Honestly, I can remember raising my arm and practically screeching in horror at what I saw! For the record, I have been working out consistently, with weights for the last 25 years. I’ve also maintained a healthy weight. Apparently none of us is immune so we can take solace in the fact that it happens to all of blessed with a long life!
I mention this because if you feel uncomfortable baring your arms, or any other part of your body, then that’s all that matters. At the end of the day confidence is key regardless of what you wear. I decided that I needed to at least try a sleeveless vest and see if I felt good in it and if it would work for me. My friend Laura shared one some time ago here.
The Sleeveless Vest I Chose
I saw this one and was immediately drawn to the gold buttons. It seemed to be the perfect one to try! It had good reviews and of course, I could return it easily if it didn’t quite work out. Although it arrived some time ago, I just finally got around to styling it.
How to Wear the Sleeveless Vest Over 50
I may feel differently a few years from now (or 6 months from now, who knows!) but I have decided that my longing for this style of vest outweighed the crepey arm situation. Now that I’m used to seeing the skin hang, I am not nearly as frightened so there’s that. Yes, I’ve made peace with it. I’m enjoying the sleeveless vest on my almost 57 year old body. In the Florida heat the best way for me to wear it is alone but it can easily be layered. It’s honestly quite versatile!
I love the way it dresses up denim! This is how it works for my more casual lifestyle. I’d say it’s an elevated casual lifestyle! If I worked in an in-person environment rather than a virtual one- this would be a very handy piece. I’d layer tops and blouses underneath it as well as over it.

Even a little cropped denim in white with a raw hem works well with this vest. I feel like I’ve sandwiched the casual denim in between the dressier vest and the cap toe flats. This is definitely a go-to look of mine. I love mixing dressier with more casual pieces.

The fitted vest looks great with wide leg, loose pants. These are both from Clara Sunwoo and the comfort is off the charts. The mum pants are a pair I wear quite often, the rayon-ponte guacho pant is a new style for me. I can see myself wearing them quite often. You can use my code KELLYANN10 to save on any order you place with Clara Sunwoo.

The vest pairs so well with a slip skirt too. Perfect for spring when the weather starts to warm and you don’t quite need a jacket or blazer. The long line, tweed vest is a great choice. I’d drape a blazer over my shoulders to ward off any chill.

There are other ideas I have for styling the sleeveless vest. I can’t wait to wear it with shorts once the warmer weather is here to stay. It could certainly work over a dress too. Basically anything you’d wear a blazer with you can wear the vest with! It can be a welcome relief for the over 50 crowd dealing with hot flashes. I often hear that blazers are just too warm, the vest is a great alternative. All the structure and pulling things together, minus the long sleeves!
I hope this inspires you to try this style! Over 50? No problem, we can wear what we like how we like. Maybe this post will give you some ideas and you’ll go for it! Let me know in the comments below!
