There is something to be said for buying clothing and accessories before the start of a new season or right as it begins. As a bargain shopper, I have not always done that. I have waited until the end of season clearance sales in the past. And you know what? Many times I’d put those things away in anticipation of next year, only to find that because I waited not only were those things out of style but I wanted new things instead. I’d lost interest in them. So rather than saving money, I ended up spending more. Funny how that happens.
Older and wiser (I use those terms loosely), now I try to find the trends I want to follow or pieces I need to update early. That way I can enjoy them longer and make better purchases overall. Affordable pieces are always going to be my goal – I never want to spend more than I need to. Sure, I don’t mind investing in some things, but overall, I want to stay well under the $100 price point per piece.
Affordable Pieces for Fall
I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again – don’t dismiss Walmart. Gosh, since Brandon Maxwell started designing Free Assembly, they’ve gotten my attention. Scoop is my second favorite and Sofia Vergara has her name on some incredible denim options. Someone at Walmart is making some very smart decisions. Just keep in mind – you will be hard pressed to find the goodness in store. Also? Things online sell out quickly. Sometimes they restock but it’s a bit of an annoyance. If the Walmart gods are listening, please change this!
Affordable Fall Dress
I’ll consider myself incredibly lucky to have spotted this dress in store. I had forgotten that Jill had the same dress in the same color. I almost bought the blue but decided that the burgundy/red color was more in line with my Fall fashion goals.
This dress is under $20 but it’s made of an incredible cotton blend. It feels much more expensive than it is. I love the slight ruffle detail at the shoulder. Not sure about you, but I’m kind of over the ginormous ruffle sleeves. This dress is much more subtle and that leads to endless styling opportunities.

This black dress is another affordable fall dress. Wear it with ballet flats, booties, and then boots. Layer it up as the weather cools. You cannot go wrong with this one!

Affordable Pants for Fall
You’ve seen loads of trousers for Fall, specifically wide leg versions. While they are on trend, they are not for everyone. If you are in the market for wide leg trousers, the best affordable option, in my opinion, is this pair from Amazon.

Looking for a slimmer leg? Then I say grab these from H&M. At just $19.99 these are an absolute steal. I tried them on in this grey and black plaid and could not believe how nice they were on. I am wearing a size 6 – I’d say they run TTS. I like the cut of these, not trendy at all. I ordered them in burgundy as they did not have my size in store. They come in lots of colors including khaki, black, blue, green, and a few plaid variations as well.

Sofia Vergara denim blew my mind with these high rise flares. Under $30 and available in other colors, you will love these. Check out the vest I am wearing as well -very affordable option and suiting is trending for Fall!

Banana Republic Factory has become a favorite of mine. This faux leather chocolate pant is going to work so well with sweaters and blazers. These are much longer than the pair from Walmart so buy these and plan to wear a heel – unless you are 5’7 or taller. The blouse is beautiful too and will be perfect worn under jackets and cardigans.

Let’s not forget these cargo pants that I have not stopped wearing. I have worn them a few times a week since getting them and they have washed up well. They are lightweight without being too thin, so they are terrific for this in-between weather.

Other Affordable Pieces
Denim skirts are everywhere and a great option if you don’t feel like wearing jeans. I love the one I found on Amazon. So far, it has been the best affordable option.

I would never be able to write a post like this without including a blazer. This one from Scoop has ruched/scrunched up sleeves giving it an immediate cool factor. The fabric is like scuba fabric and the fit is incredible. It goes in at the waist just as a well fitting blazer should. Grab this while you can. I am wearing a small.

Final Thoughts
Well, that proved to be a much longer list than I had anticipated. Once I got started I kept thinking of more pieces to include. Bottom line: if there is something you like, you’ll get the most value if you buy it at the beginning of the season. I hope you found something you like but please let me know if there are other items you are searching for – I would love to hunt along with you!
