Friday Favorites Round Up

The hardest part of writing a blog post sometimes is coming up with a title. Luckily I have lots of things to share so let’s get started with today’s Friday Favorites Round Up!

As per usual I’m all over the place, hence the difficulty with a title. Over the last week I had several favorites including some fun things my husband and I got to do.

Last Weekend

Last weekend, actually last Friday, my husband and I joined our friends for a boat ride in Mt. Dora. Having lived in Central Florida for almost 50 years, you’d think I’ve done all the things. Turns out I have not. Mt. Dora is about 40 minutes away and the 2 hour boat ride was fabulous. If you are ever in Central Florida I highly recommend!

On Saturday we joined my brother and sister in law to meet up with second cousins we had never met! One cousin lives about 2 hours away in Spring Hill, FL (relocated there about 3 years ago from NJ) and his siblings live in NJ and AZ. My brother connected with them on Ancestry and the rest is history. We had a great time and felt like we’d known one another for years! Their father was my father’s cousin; he had passed away many years ago and with him all kinds of knowledge about family stuff. Anyway, we vowed to do this again and stay in touch – it was really wonderful! I have always wanted a BIG family to get together with!

Random Favorites

Last week I picked up a new favorite scent from Bath & Body Works, Gingham Glow. Holy cow I am obsessed with this scent! It smells so clean, fresh, and fabulous! I bought a candle and two body lotions. Typically my go to scent for body wash and lotion is Into the Night but this one got me! Have you tried it yet? According to the website Gingham Glow has notes of golden nectar, marigold petals, and sun soaked sandalwood, it is divine.

A favorite I have mentioned before is my library. I have not purchased a book (unless it was a devotional or for work) in years. I get my free Amazon Prime book for my Kindle each month and the rest of the time I’m reading library books. Right now I’m reading The Arrangement recommended by my friend Amy. I am enjoying it and can’t wait to see how it ends!

Unpopular Opinion

The Nordstrom Sale is the sale we love to hate or hate to love. In recent years I have been underwhelmed. Well. I think I may have been going about it all wrong. I wanted to be wowed but now I realize it’s actually a good sale for wardrobe staples/basics. No doubt if I lived in a cold climate I’d be in need of all the boots, coats, and sweaters this sale is famous for. Instead, looking at it as a chance to get some designer pieces at a discount. I stay away from Nordstrom house brands because I don’t think they’re any better than any other retailer’s own label. That may be an unpopular opinion but it’s based on my experience.

There is also a fair amount of displeasure with the tiers and when we are ‘allowed’ to shop. I am mostly ambivalent when it comes to this topic. On the one hand I remember years ago waking up super early and trying to shop. The website crashed and I wasted so much time trying to complete a purchase. Oh, and then the order would get cancelled. This was a time when I thought my life would somehow be made better if only I had the MUST HAVES from Nordstrom. With age comes wisdom I guess, I no longer feel that way.

On the other hand, by the time I get to shop all the things I want are sold out. I have learned that most will re-stock because the Icons and Ambassadors buy and then return things. If you spend thousands of dollars each year at Nordstrom then by all means you deserve something special! I made a wish list and while some things are already sold out, I hope to be notified when they restock. Here are the things I am considering:

The YSL lipsticks are a gift for a friend. I think the packaging is so beautiful and this makes the perfect gift for the person who has it all. The boucle blazer is a major splurge but also a classic style I think I’ll have for years to come so it’s a good investment (I think!).

Are you shopping the sale? Walmart had their Deal Days from the 8th-11th and they had some really great prices. I shared them on Instagram and my LTK – you should follow me there if you aren’t already! Next week is Amazon Prime’s turn. Talk about overwhelming, goodness, that is one sale that is hard to navigate!
