Friday Favorites - The Day After

Hey friends, thanks for visiting. Since today is 9/12, the day after 9/11 I decided to make that the theme for this post. I have a feeling not a single one of you had to wonder what I’m referencing with 9/11. The entire world changed forever on that day. We lost so much we will never get back. I remember the events of the day as if it were yesterday and not 24 years ago yesterday. But I also remember moving forward. I remember how full our church services were. I remember seeing American flags flying proudly. I also remember people were practicing more acts of kindness. So, that’s what I want to focus on. Having hope. The worst days happen – I can name many – but then the next day arrives. Slowly but surely the new reality sets in. We don’t dwell on the tragedy, we move forward and live our lives but we don’t forget. That’s what hope is.

Friday Favorites – The Day After

I can remember a time when we acknowledged 9/11 in school. Then I remember when we didn’t. I understood why as the school counselor I didn’t need to address it with students. But I also remember that I had a book titled September 12th. Elementary students did not need to hear about planes crashing into buildings and people dying at school. It’s a sensitive subject. I don’t have the book any longer but I remember it was about hope and positivity and that’s what I leaned into.

So my very favorite thing today is hope! I hope that is something you always have. Even in the midst of dark time, hope is our lifeline.

Now, let’s move on to lighter material, shall we? These are the things that brought me joy this week!

This Week’s Favorites

These plates. What can I say? Ever since I was a little girl I loved this pattern, Desert Rose. Naturally when I got married, I registered for this pattern for our everyday dishes. Over the almost 31 years I’ve been married we have used these plates. When we had our kitchen remodeled in 2018 I put them away and started using plain white dishes. They looked better with the newer kitchen. But you know what? I didn’t feel joy when I held them or used them. In an attempt to make even the most mundane daily activities more joyful I had my husband get them out again. What can I say except I smile when I see these.

Let’s take another trip down memory lane. When I was a little girl and my grandmother would come to visit, she always wore a house coat. I recently saw someone on YouTube wearing one and it immediately took me back. My 57 year old self realized this house coat – or dressing gown – was exactly what I needed. I like it so much better than a robe! It zips up the front and has pockets. No worrying about it coming untied. I am bringing it on a trip I am taking this weekend!

I was reminded of how much I like these high waisted jeans from Target when I wore them last Friday. It’s funny because I almost ditched them! Everyone raved about how great they are and then I bought them. Every time I wore them the look was not quite right; well I realized they were too long. Once I cut the hem I was quite happy! I am still wearing my Aerosoles (Camera) and love them. They really are so comfortable and they look good with just about everything.

Wrapping up today’s post I want to say that I hope you have a wonderful weekend! I have a trip to Charleston, SC that I am most definitely looking forward to! It’s an Influencers Retreat and I am meeting up with my bestie Lisa! We’ll be with some other wonderful ladies and I am looking forward to spending time with them and seeing all the charming sites in Charleston!

I will have a Monday post and Thursday post but Friday is a little iffy. Thanks in advance for your patience and grace.
