Saying happy Friday just doesn’t seem quite right when here in the US we’ve had yet another school tragedy. Early Wednesday morning one of my friends had shared this verse and I was so happy to be reminded of it.
I was also reminded this week by my son that light can only exist when we have darkness. Of course he was referring to design when I was picking his brain about flooring. These are the things I think of though, from time to time.
Friday Favorites
Speaking of my son, well one of them at least, my very favorite thing this week has been some great news about him! In case you don’t know, he is finishing his master’s degree in architecture at UF. Well, last fall he told us he was entering a national competition. Long story short, he worked over 1,000 hours and he placed 2nd out of over 900 other participants!
The project is called Liminal Library and you can see the details of the project below. He placed 2nd in the ACSA/AISC 2024 Steel Design Student Competition Open Category! He won a cash prize but honestly, he was more interested in being able to add this accomplishment to his resume.
He really worked hard and I admire his dedication. There were many things he had to give up to achieve this goal – and that was his goal – to place! Lots of times he had to stay in to work on this project and he burned the midnight oil more than once.
Another favorite has been finding out that my nephew accepted a post doc position at Vanderbilt! He will move to Nashville in January and work remotely until then. He earned his PhD in Chemistry in May (that’s what the picture is from).
Last weekend since we were still feeling a bit under the weather, my husband and I learned to play Mexican Train Dominoes! We really enjoyed it and will play again for sure.
Just about every day I jump on Instagram stories and talk. And talk, and talk – ha!! A favorite of my community is my lip combo. It’s all affordable and these drug store brands mimic a pricier (Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk) nude lip. Most of the time I like to use Milani lip gloss but I also enjoy Lifter Gloss. Have you tried any of these yet? The Maybelline Super Stay Ink Crayon is in the color Lead the Way, the liner is Lip Liner, and the Lifter Gloss is in the color Reef.
All the Labor Day sales got me last weekend too! Specifically shoe sales. You know I love my Vionics. I swear by them and their ability to prevent PF and help heal it too by keeping your heal in alignment. The flip flops I wear constantly are two years old and I wanted to be sure I had a replacement. I ordered these!
I had a favorite outfit this week and it’s this one here! These separates from Franne Golde are so luxe! I love the fit and casual elegance of the brand. I love the ease of a slip skirt.
