Summer Essential: Black Sundress
This year has been one of reflection and learning for me. Specifically I am trying to hone in on my personal style and figuring out what items I need in my wardrobe to achieve the goal of always finding something to wear that I’ll love. Buying less but better is key as well as practicing discernment. Each season there are a few pieces that are wardrobe staples. One summer essential is the black sundress.
What is a Sundress
A sundress is usually a lightweight, casual dress. It’s meant to be worn informally in warm weather. The sundress is often loose fitting with a wide neckline and thin straps. In some cases it is backless.
That being said, allow me to introduce you to the perfect black sundress! This beauty is from Amazon and has adjustable shoulder straps. There is some elastic at the back but it is not smocked. It is a midi length and the flowy skirt allows for lots of air circulation. It appears to be sold out in black but is available in other colors. I am wearing a size medium for reference. I did find this one from Kohl’s and it’s quite similar!
How to Wear the Black Sundress
The black sundress is a summer essential because of its versatility. Wear it with a flat sandal, a sneaker, a strappy sandal, or even a flip flop – this dress can do no wrong.
What to Look For in a Sundress
You can find your summer essential black sundress easily by keeping a few key components in mind. Fabric is very important. Since the piece is black, I suggest looking for something that won’t fade easily nor will it pill – cotton is an attractive choice.
Adjustable straps allow for a good fit, however, strapless is an option too. Consider the length you feel comfortable in as well – what shoes will you wear? Finding a length that will work with multiple shoes ensures this piece will be one you reach for time and time again!
