Joy Bringers

This Friday I am rounding up all the things that brought me joy this week. I hemmed and hawed over what to title this post and finally landed on Joy Bringers. I’m certain the title won’t garner me any kudos SEO wise, but to be honest, I don’t care. Sometimes I get tired of trying to do the right thing to grow the blog and wonder what difference it really makes. At the end of the day, I choose joy in its simplest form. Over money, over influence, over the number of followers, likes, etc.

The Joy of a Dress

I have always been a girl who loves a good dress. In fact my mom always reminds me (and everyone in earshot) of how I would only wear dresses that spun! As long as the dress passed my spin test, I’d wear it. I no longer require dresses that spin but I do love dresses. On Monday I visited Target and tried on three pretty dresses. This one came home with me and I wore it on Tuesday. It’s pretty, it’s simple, it’s perfect for summer! Definitely a joy bringer for me.

!This one was super cute and so much fun

Family Joy

My 6 year old niece stopped by on Monday to show off her swimming skills! She always brings me joy, her sweet little smile and innocent nature – there’s just something about little people that makes me smile. This little doll is a joy bringer for me!

Speaking of Family Joy…

Simple acts really bring me joy. Since graduating from college and moving back home, our younger son eats dinner with us at night. While that’s enough to make my heart swell, he actually washed the dishes on Wednesday night! I’d like to say he wasn’t asked, but he kind of was. Here’s the deal – his housekeeping skills are subpar. He often leaves his dishes in the sink and we will not put them in the dishwasher for him. His dishes from Tuesday were still in the sink when I pointed that out to him. Next thing I knew he was doing the dinner dishes! I snapped this picture of my husband and son at the sink, most definitely a joy bringer!

Let me just say this too – it is INCREDIBLY hard for me to leave his dishes, his laundry, any mess really for him to clean up. It drives me nuts. It’s in such stark contrast to how he was raised. But I also know that if I do things for him, he will never step up to the plate. Parenting is not easy, even when your children become adults. He will be starting a job soon and will be living at home until the fall of 2023 when he goes back to school to get his master’s degree, so we’re in this for the long haul!

Movie Joy

We kicked off last weekend with the original Top Gun. Since it was Father’s Day weekend and my husband’s every wish was my command (ha!!) we planned to see Top Gun Maverick. It had been over 30 years since either of us had seen the original. Not only did I enjoy the original but Top Gun Maverick lived up to the hype! Have you seen it yet? Gosh, it was so good.

This weekend we have some great things planned with family. I cannot wait to share them with you next week. In the meantime, please know how much it means to me that you are reading this. Your time is precious and the fact that you’ll spend even just a few moments here with me fills my heart. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Be blessed!
