Gibsonlook Soft Luxe Midi Sweater Dress

Saturday my husband and I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary with dinner out. I knew exactly what I was wearing, this midi sweater dress! What I didn’t know, until I sat down to write this post, was that it’s actually called a sweater dress! Honestly, there is nothing sweater-like about it! Gibsonlook has named it the Drape Neck Belted Soft Luxe Midi Sweater Dress, and here I was going to call it a knit midi dress…hmmmm,

The name may be slightly deceiving but the dress is fabulous! I was lucky enough to snag this dress from Andrea. She works with Gibsonlook and this was one was too big so she gave it to me. #lucky She shared the dress on her blog here.

The dress is midi in length, I am wearing it in a small and the length (according to the website) is 43 3/4″. I find this length to be so versatile when it comes to shoes. It has a slit up on side and it drapes at the neck. The dress comes with a belt – I immediately cut the loops for the belt off of the dress (pro tip: do that to make a piece look more expensive). Honestly I like the belt loosely tied since I have a tummy but I also like the dress without the belt at all. This dress comes in 3 colorways: black, blush, and emerald. It comes in sizes XXS-XXl – I do find Gibsonlook to run large so I usually have my best luck when I order one size down in their line.

How to Wear a Knit Dress

When it comes to how to wear it, the drape neck allows for different styling options. It can be worn off one shoulder or on both. I like that feature because I prefer wearing a regular bra, however, for our anniversary dinner I decided to wear it off one shoulder.

While I wore my favorite heels, a tall boot or sock bootie would look great when the weather cools. I threw on a lightweight moto jacket to see how it works and I will definitely style it that way when the temps drop here in FL.

Choose the Right Undergarments

While I realize this dress is called a sweater dress, it is a very soft knit. Knit fabric clings and typically accentuates every bulge, roll, and dimple. I wore these underneath so I could be guaranteed a smooth fit. I wore this strapless bra. Let me once again be very honest with you. This bra? It is hyped all over the internet but for me, it’s not any better than any other strapless bra I have owned. That’s not to say it doesn’t work wonders for those who tout it’s stellar performance but on this 34DDD 54 year old body it’s just meh.

Back to the Dress

This is not a dress I would have ordered for myself, based on the name alone, I would have passed it right by. I already own a sweater dress and because I live in a warm climate, I don’t need two. But this is a knit dress, a very soft, luxurious feeling knit dress mind you but a knit dress all the same. All that being said, I am thrilled to have it.

I always ask myself if I can wear a piece at least three different ways when I consider buying it and that gets tricky with a dress. In this case, however, I can see it. Belted, not belted, with boots, booties, heels, with a jacket, or without. This color is stunning and perfect for the upcoming holiday season. It would be perfect for family photos, Thanksgiving, Christmas, you name it! While it can be worn for special occasions it can also be worn to work or church too. What do you think, do you like this dress?
