Friday Favorites - Bye, September!

Happy Friday, friends! I’m writing this post on Thursday morning as I watch and wait for Hurricane Helene to hit. This week certainly turned out quite differently than I expected – read on to find out all the twists and turns that have occurred and why I’m ready to say bye, September!

Friday Favorites – Bye, September!

Let me start by sharing all the great happenings from last week and how grateful I am that we had all the plans then and not this weekend! My mom turned 80 on Sunday, September, 22nd. We kicked off the celebration on Friday night with dinner at one of her favorite restaurants. The pictures below are my siblings and me with my mom and then the family – minus my older son, our 8 year old niece, and one of my nephews.

On Saturday I was party prepping until we went to dinner and a play. We love to support local theater!

I was hosting a party for her on Sunday afternoon from 2-4. I had decided to serve desserts only since the party was planned in the middle of the day. To make it special I made all the desserts from scratch! It sounds a little more daunting then it was; I started baking on Thursday and that made it much more manageable. The other thing? Baking is something I really enjoy so it was my pleasure to do it! It was also so nice to see my mom celebrated in such a special way! So many people have been touched by her love and kindness and if you have ever met my mom you know how much she loves her people!

What I Hadn’t Expected

Here’s where things went off the rails a bit. Friday night I woke up in the middle of the night and didn’t feel well. I thought maybe something I had at dinner upset my stomach. Long story short, I passed out and hit my head on the bathroom wall! To be honest, I didn’t think it was too big of a deal (I know, how crazy does that sound??) but my head sure hurt. I took Tylenol and then later on some sleep medication and slept a few hours. I knew I had lots to do on Saturday.

The good news is I woke up! Ha!!! It wasn’t until much later on Saturday when I asked my husband if I passed out and how he found me in the bathroom. We walked into the bathroom and for the first time realized how hard I hit my head! No wonder it hurt!

I powered through the weekend just fine since I was so busy. Sure my head was tender and yeah, I didn’t feel quite like myself. When I logged onto work on Monday I started to feel dizzy and tired. I was having a hard time typing the correct words! Reluctantly I called my doctor and she sent me to the ER. Turns out I had a mild concussion. I had a CT scan that cane back just fine – thank goodness! The ER doctor said it was a vasovagal episode:

Prior to fainting I did feel nauseous and sweaty so if I ever feel that way again, I’ll sit down on the floor. That was scary! I did not tell my mom about my fainting until Wednesday – well after her party. She told me that my sister had also not felt well late Friday night – and we ordered the same thing at dinner!

Then a Hurricane

This week was supposed to be an in-person conference for my virtual school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. To be completely honest I was not looking forward to it. As much as I really love the people I work with the ginormous conference we attend each year is exhausting! So when Helene started out as a tropical storm the decision was made to cancel the conference. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise since the way to recover from a concussion is to limit screen time and rest!

All the Good Things

Regardless of the concussion and the hurricane, I am still finding so many favorites from the week! There really are hidden joys and blessings in every situation. Let’s get to some of the very best things!

This Cute Dress

This cute dress was sent to me by a new to me online boutique Pink Peonies. I am so happy to work with them! The dress is so cute and very affordable. I love the tiered skirt and the fact that it buttons up the front. This allows it to be worn as a duster too! Anyway, I will be wearing this for Thanksgiving with these boots! I am wearing the dress in a size small for reference (I’m almost 5’4″). Here’s a link for similar boots (mine are old).

What I am currently crushing at Abercrombie:

New Pink Shoes

I’m telling you, I really thought I was just fine on Saturday. We had dinner before the play and with a little time to kill I popped into Dillard’s. Well…these pink shoes came home with me! Gah, I love them!!! The pink were on clearance, normally $89 and now just $31. The pink is not online but the full priced black version is.

Then I spotted these and seriously??? I will be stalking them. The minute they go on sale they will be mine! They have a sweet little kitten heel and although I didn’t try them on, I feel it in my heart that they’ll be comfortable – ha!!!

Well, that wraps up this week’s favorites! I hope you had a great week, let me know what your favorites are. I wish for you a wonderful weekend filled with lots of rest, relaxation, and happiness!
