Kaftans are perfect for staying cool and stylish in the heat. They seem to have made a resurgence on the fashion scene as of late which is a good thing in my opinion. But I believe that very elegant and stylish women have always relied on the caftan. Today’s kaftan is effortlessly chic and can be worn almost anywhere, dressed up or down.
When it’s hot, I prefer loose clothing so the kaftan fits the bill. A few years ago I got the worst heat rash around my mid section and it was actually painful. I take steps to prevent that type of situation each Summer. It’s one of the main reasons I prefer to wear dresses over shorts or pants when possible.
I spotted this kaftan at H&M a few weeks ago. It comes in this color as well as black. It feels so luxurious and can be worn with pants as well. I tried on a small in store and it seemed like more fabric than I really wanted so I ordered an XS. I did have to give it a quick steam once it arrived – and you can still see some of the areas I missed. I’m also a bit perplexed as to why the top of my photos looks blurry. Any ideas? These were taken with the DSLR by my husband.
A flat sandal would work just as well as the wedge espadrille I chose. The kaftan is not floor length (I’m 5’5″) but I liked the idea of adding the leopard print sandal and straw bag to accessorize. I think it makes a great warm weather outfit whether you are headed to dinner or out shopping.
If you’re old enough to remember the sitcom Three’s Company than the word Kaftan may conjure up images of Mrs. Roper. Push those aside, today’s kaftan is elegant and chic. And actually, I think Mrs. Roper was pretty fabulous – she was always “done” – hair, make up, accessories, and of course her fabulous kaftans!
