Welcome to this edition of Fashion Files. In this edition I am sharing a recent experience I had at a retailer I haven’t shopped in ages. It was such a pleasant surprise and had me thinking that Belk really is a hidden gem.

Belk: Hidden Gem
When I was growing up in Central Florida, Belk Lindsey department stores were in a few local shopping malls. They were upscale and had some beautiful clothes, accessories, shoes, and a home department. As the malls became less popular, so did Belk Lindsey. They closed and then soon started to reappear as Belk. The closest Belk to me closed several years ago. I shopped online a few times but that was it. In the spring of this year, at the urging of a friend, I placed an online order and was so impressed! Another friend mentioned that the closest store was in Deland, FL – about a 45ish minute drive. My husband and I stopped in last week to check it out and it did not disappoint!
Belk really is a hidden gem! The women’s clothing section had so many pretty clothes and sales galore. I honestly didn’t know where to begin! I had the impression that Belk was more of a FL store – I am making that assumption based on the styles I saw in the store but I could certainly be wrong.
What I found reminded me so much of the clothes I have from Avara yet the prices are more like Amazon. If you like that preppy, colorful vibe then you’ll enjoy what I found at Belk.
Blouses & Tops
This first top came home with me – I loved the neckline and of course the colorway. This very same style is sold at Avara. It looks so much more expensive! Belk also seems to always have a sale so the price is just $25. I am wearing a small for reference. I tried all of these tops with white shorts – also marked down to just $19. I really like the length on these.

The next two tops are basically the same style but one is solid green and the other is striped. I liked them both! Not so much a fan of the tassels but otherwise I really like these. The sleeve length is perfect!

The print on this top is so pretty! The elbow puff sleeve provides great arm coverage and the split neck is very flattering. I love this type of neckline so I can wear my favorite jewelry.

Dresses
So many dresses, so little time! The store was packed with beautiful prints and colors but I had a hard time finding my size. I should also say that the store was pretty full that day so lots of trying and buying by other shoppers I guess!
I really wish I had a reason to buy this blue and cream dress! It is so pretty and I loved it the minute I put it on. This one also reminds me of something I’d find at Avara for $98 but it’s just under $40.

Another pretty every day dress! Again, the neckline is one I love. This is a great teacher dress – teachers who live in hot climates anyway! It’s not too short and it’s not too long. Wear it with sandals, sneakers, or a little wedge.

This last dress is actually a swim cover up but I think it’s cute enough to wear as a regular dress. It’s not see through and it’s a cotton linen blend. Also? It has pockets!

Bottoms
This two piece set is an eye catcher! It looks much more expensive and would be great worn as separates. I cannot find the top online in this print unfortunately. The pants have a drawstring waist and they’re super comfortable.

This last outfit is really all about the pull on black pants. They are a dream and fit TTS. I grabbed this top to try on – it is very well made and has snaps on the placket so when you tie the bows you are completely covered. In my opinion it’s a bit pricey so I don’t recommend it. The outfit does make a nice work look though!

So what do you think, is Belk a hidden gem? Do you have one near you? Tell me in the comments below!
