It’s time to chat about a warm weather essential that is synonymous with summer: SHORTS! They come in all different lengths and there’s something for everyone. Of course there are a few things to consider when choosing a pair and I think ultimately it depends on your comfort level.
Inseam
Consider the inseam. What you’re comfortable wearing may change as you age – it has for me! The skin on my legs is getting softer and that has me feeling more comfortable in a mid length short. That doesn’t mean that’s all I wear. Certainly not. But I tend to grab a kimono or lightweight duster when I am wearing a shorter short.
Denim shorts run the gamut of super shorts to bermuda length. I have found my favorites to be from American Eagle and Target. The pair I am wearing below I purchased more than 5 years ago and I still love them. I prefer a mid rise and have found that to be a classic – no low rise for me!

The photo above and the one below are from last year.

Leg Opening
What kind of leg opening do you prefer? Narrow? Wide? Cuffed? Uncuffed? I prefer a short that is fitted through the leg but not too tight. Cuffs emphasize your thighs so if that is an area of your body you don’t want to highlight, skip the cuff.

Fabric & Style
If you buy good, quality shorts they can last several seasons, and you can change up your look by adding new tops and accessories instead! While distressed fabric and raw edge hems are fun, and certainly have their place in your wardrobe, it’s best to spend a little more on a classic short you can wear for a variety of occasions.

Chico’s makes a beautiful short that pulls on, has no pockets (no added bulk), and a great length (13 inch inseam). Last week I found a similar pair at Walmart! This is a great option if you are looking to save a little!

Footwear
Wearing a low heel (oh heck I wear high heels) can help give the illusion of a longer leg. Wearing a flat sandal in a nude color/shade can also elongate your leg. My favorite wedges are 20% off this week!

What you’ve just read are TIPS not RULES! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, wear what you feel comfortable in. The point of my writing today is to give you something to think about – that’s it!
Some of my favorite strategies involve faking it when it comes to my legs. There’s nothing better than self tanner, moisturizer, and leg make up to give your gams some gleam!
