Trench Coat for Spring

I have long admired trench coats. In fact, I owned one back in the day (the 80’s that is) but the fit was off and ultimately I got rid of it. In my mind they were so chic but meant for those living up north where the weather called for one. But alas, my opinion has changed so today I bring you a trench coat for spring!

Why a Trench Coat?

This type of coat conjures up images of French chic and classic style. Besides that they also serve a purpose – to provide a little extra warmth and protection from the elements. Much like my beloved blazers, a this classic coat adds that 3rd piece, a topper if you will, that elevates an outfit.

Finding the Right Trench Coat

As I mentioned earlier, many years ago, I had a trench coat. It was the classic London Fog with a removable lining. My mother picked it up for me while shopping at a Marshalls store (or something similar). The problem was it was a 14 petite. I knew nothing about what it should look like and she pushed it on me so I kept it. The woman is very persuasive and I was under her spell back then. Ha! I wore it a handful of time when traveling and then out it went – probably to Goodwill.

When I started feeling the gravitational pull (kidding of course) towards purchasing one as a 50 something woman, I knew I needed the right fit this time. No more kissing frogs to find the prince of coats for me!

In my opinion, JCrew had the best coat for my needs. Living in FL I don’t need extra lining, light to medium weight was what interested me and it could not be long. I started stalking JCrew and JCrew Factory checking for sales and extra discounts because I did not want to pay full price. Since I sell clothing on Poshmark, I remembered to check there as well. Bingo! I found one with tags at a price that was right up my alley!

Great news if you’d like to find one yourself, I have found trench coats at every price range. There’s definitely something for everyone!

**Shopping Tip: Don’t forget to search Poshmark or sites like Thred Up when you know what you want and the size you need!

Trench Coat Styled for Spring

I decided to style my coat for Spring with an all white outfit. Keeping the accessories and shoes neutral, added to the overall chic effect! Using wardrobe basics, this outfit came together easily and I love the look. I am working on learning to tie the belt better and of course leaving it open and tied in the back.
