Sporty Chic Outfit
There was a time when sporty meant athletic wear only worn by athletes, my how times have changed! Wait, did I just sound ancient? But it’s true. We have athleisure wear now and it has significantly changed the fashion canvas.
When I was a kid I never even owned a pair of sweatpants. Really! I didn’t own my first pair until I had graduated college – can you imagine? Now joggers seem to have become a staple item in most wardrobes.
What Does Sporty Chic Mean?
Sometimes new terms pop up and I have to wonder what the heck they mean before I start throwing them around myself! Like Sporty Chic. I had to look it up so as not to embarrass myself by using it incorrectly. So here’s what it means (according to Google): It’s a laid-back street style that brings sporty elements and urban aesthetics together in one outfit. The result is a cool, contemporary, and classy look that seems effortless yet put together. At its heart, sporty chic is all about comfort. It’s sporty but not sloppy.
Oh, Sporty Chic, you had me at laid back and effortless. Let’s see if I can pull off the look.
How to Dress Sporty Chic Casual
I’ll say my outfit is Sporty Chic Casual. The bike shorts definitely lend the casual feel. Truth be told, I am a little shocked I’m wearing these anywhere besides the gym! I have owned these more than a year and wear them three times a week to boot camp. Guess what? They have held up spectacularly and you won’t believe the price. #takethatlululemon

I’ve seen this look on loads of younger women worn with a crop top or sports bra. That doesn’t fit my comfort level, however, I know some mature women who look FABULOUS in cropped tops – I’m looking at YOU Jodie and YOU Nancy! A simple black tank did the trick for me and this oversized white button down proved to be the perfect 3rd piece. I’m wearing it in a size large and love the fit. I don’ think it’s possible to have too many of these in varying lengths and sizes. They all serve a purpose.

Adding accessories like jewelry, fashion sneakers, and a crossbody provide the answer to the question, “how to dress sporty but cute.” It’s all terribly effortless and comfortable. It’s intentional not thrown together. Remember the “chic” part – a look like this is set apart by accessories and not sloppy.

Sporty chic is perfect for those times when you want to have fun without sacrificing your style. Like random escapades at the local park! You can have fun and look pulled together.
