This brown smocked top caught my eye in Target a few weeks ago. The color is so pretty – which almost sounds strange because brown gets such a bad wrap. I’d say this is a pretty brown with purplish blue undertones and not just a standard brown if that makes sense.
While I am trying hard to curate a closet full of wardrobe staples that will stand the test of time, I bought a similar blouse in two colorways last spring and knew I really liked the fit. You can see those here . The brown smocked top doesn’t have a pattern and I think it looks a bit richer because of that.
How to Wear it
This brown smocked top is so versatile! It can be worn with pants, shorts, skirts. The pretty smocking at the bodice and sleeves is so flattering. I am wearing it in a size small, I actually think I need a medium instead. Seeing the photos brings this knowledge to light! Good thing this top is available in sizes XS- XXL and comes in 3 other colorways.
The first thing I did when I got this blouse home was throw it on with my coated black denim. I love the look of the brown smocked top with these pants and the cap toe pumps. A blouse like this is so easy to style because the smocking detail does all the work for you! No need for a belt nor worry about tucking.

Great news, this pair of pants is on MAJOR clearance, marked down and an extra 50% off. Making them under $50! The best part is that they seem to be well stocked in all sizes.
Make it Work Appropriate
Just as easily as the brown smocked top works with denim, dress pants pair beautifully! I think this would be a great work look. The brown is such a beautiful neutral that you could use almost any color bottom. I think this is such a pretty blouse to wear for work – a step up from a standard button up blouse yet still modest.

Your Turn
Do you like smocking? What are your thoughts on brown? So many questions I’d love to see your answers to in the comments. I hope you feel inspired to try a blouse like this!
