Friday Five

Happy last Friday of September friends!  I hope you are as ready for the weekend as I am! We are headed to Gainesville this weekend to see our boy and the game.  Only for the day though, I get way too anxious if I’m gone for the whole weekend-I always feel like I need to get things ready for the week ahead. As much as I’d like to say I can just go with the flow and wing it that’s not when I’m at my best and as I’ve gotten older I’m not so interested in trying to change.  I like who I am and what makes me tick. Ha!  Guess I am owning my crazy!

Today I have 5 things to share with you and I am really all over the place here.  These 5 really run the gamut!

First up – my new daily glow moisturizer with self tanner.  For years I’ve been buying this one. It’s perfect for moisturizing and getting just enough color to look healthy all while avoiding sun damage. However, last week I stumbled upon Wal-mart’s version and it was $3 cheaper and worked just as well! Score!

Number two: I’ve been having a really hard time lately with how unkind some people have become. Last week was a real humdinger. My friend and I were walking on the street in our neighborhood. Why walk on the street? There are still piles of hurricane debris partially blocking the sidewalks and it’s hard to walk side by side with someone because the sidewalks are narrow. Also, the main street is not a busy one and the speed limit is 25 mph. This lady comes roaring up to us in her SUV and pulls up right along side of us. She starts yelling and screaming like a maniac. We were stunned. Then she pulls away and as she turns onto her street puts her window down and screams “Get on the sidewalk, idiots!” I could hardly believe it. Who is THAT angry at 10:00 on a Saturday morning? Oh, just a MOM FROM MY SCHOOL. #awkward  I just couldn’t wrap my head around that kind of anger. And rage. And lack of a social filter. Of course it didn’t end there because she posted on our neighborhood website/Facebook type thing that she needed someone to “explain to her why people insist on walking in the street” she failed to mention her maniacal behavior. Then I read this post from Johanna at 101 Things I love. My heart hurt.
In retaliation of all the anger and hate I started looking for ways to increase kindness all around me.Voila! I found this book. It’s just what I needed, maybe you do too? And the lady in my neighborhood? She has no idea the school counselor that her twin sons LOVE is the person she called an idiot, screamed obscenities at, and tried to run off the road. All in a days work for some people, right? I’m not even joking when I say I wish everyone would pray for more kindness in this world.

Don’t think I’m crazy but my number 3 favorite thing this week is the Target catalog. I know.I know. But have you seen it yet? I mean, honestly it’s so good. The clothes. The home decor. Is it Pottery Barn or Target? You be the judge. Wowza!

Number 4 wear have you been all my life? I mean, really, an in shower facial in just 60 seconds. Come to momma (and her old skin). I read about this product in a magazine and picked it up last week. I love it!

You should try it yourself, so affordable, easy to use,and I LOVED the way my skin felt.

Finally number 5!I mentioned earlier this week that I was going to participate in the Common Threads Challenge . Well I’ve picked my 5 pieces for the challenge. The good news is that my outfit planning is now done for the entire month of October! I actually wrote in my planner what I was wearing everyday so I could be sure the pieces I picked would work.
Here’s what I chose: a striped, short bell sleeve top (similar), this black pencil skirt,my new gingham blouse,my cargo vest (similar) and my olive utility pants (similar). What do you think? Did I choose well? I sure hope so!
I’ll be sharing my first outfit on Monday so be sure to stop back by then. Maybe you’d like to join me? Why not!
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by today, I so appreciate it!

Oh that kind of behaviour is infuriating, no surprise that the boys love their Mrs R.
Like your choice of 5 pieces and like the concept. I see it as a vehicle to get me to wear things I’ve struggled with, so that after 30 days I will have cracked them … or will have tossed them out of the bedroom window once and for all! I’ll be away from home most of October and those infuriating items won’t be taking up precious space in my carry on, so that’s deferred till November.
Hugs and enjoy the game, x.

Can you believe that woman, Mary? So crazy. I’m still stunned. I’ve NEVER experienced anything like that before and hope I never do again. We’ll have to see how the 30 days go for me,hopefully I won’t be so sick of those pieces that I want to donate them! Sounds like you have some fun plans for October – can’t wait to see what you’re up to my friend!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Have a fabulous weekend my love!

I am in utter disbelief that that woman would be so blatantly RUDE!!! Oh my goodness. She mush be some kind of sad to have so much negativity pouring out of her and at 10:00 on a Saturday morning. Thank heavens her little guy has a sweet person like you in his life. WOW! That’s all I can say about that! If I needed one more tube of stuff (LOL) in my shower, I’d try that face cleanser, but Kent might just die if I add anything else in there. ? (he’s never said anything, but I can only imagine what goes through his head…hahaha) I don’t have the brain power right now to limit myself creatively to 5 pieces of clothing and the planning that would take to incorporate them. #LAME I’m going to love watching your outfits this month though. Enjoy the day with your sweet boy and the ball game mama!!! Love ya! XOXO

Thanks dear friend! I’ll tell ya that woman is straight up angry. I know I need to pray for her but right now all I really want to do is anonymously mail her information about anger workshops! Hahaha! Sad but true.
You’ll be travelling so doing a clothing challenge would be hard. Listen, it’s gonna be a challenge for me because I don’t wear the same thing two weeks in a row let alone the same 5 pieces all month. It’s gonna be a stretch for sure!
      Happy weekend my friend!
      Love ya,

Wow… just wow. That seriously is some rage and anger at 10:00 a.m. on a Saturday. Usually Saturday mornings I’m in a pretty good mood, because I have the whole weekend ahead of me still. And, so what if you were walking on the street? Pediatricians always have the right of way and it isn’t like she can’t go around you. And, I can’t believe it is someone you know. That would have put me down the rest of the day, stuff like that just gets under my skin! I am glad you love that shower facial, it is just so easy! I am excited to see your first outfit on Monday! And 🙁 I didn’t get that Target catalog! Boo! I used to get stuff from them, but it stopped!

Can you believe that woman? She is full of rage all the time. My principal has a huge file filled with all of her nasty emails to the teachers at our school. It was such a shock!
Target is really upping the ante these days! I bet all you need to do is place one online order and you’ll be getting catalogs left and right, lol!
      Happy weekend!

Oh I’m so sorry that lady reacted that way! I agree, we could all use a little kindness in the world. Doesn’t make sense to be mean, you never know what other people are goign through!

I hadn’t heard of the common thread challenge before, what a lovely idea! Thanks for sharing it, I think I might give it a go one month 🙂

Hope you are having a really good weekend!

Thanks Mica! I suppose the Common Threads Challenge is a relatively new idea- similar to a capsule wardrobe but a lot easier.I don’t think I’m cut out for anything too limiting – I love having choices!
      Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

I know, can you believe that? She is so full of rage and so dangerous. She will unleash her anger at someone someday who has a gun and fights back – that is my fear. I honestly lost sleep thinking about it because I just can’t imagine what that must be like. I would love to talk with her and get inside her head and see what this is all about – that’s the therapist in me speaking. Oh well!
      Thanks so much Patti!
