Common Threads Wrap Up

Well, I did it.  Like Sinatra, my way, but I did it.  I have never participated in a style challenge before so this was a big deal for me.  Incorporating the same 5 pieces into each outfit worn for a month seemed pretty reasonable unlike other challenges that are more restrictive.  I know I am not cut out to ever do a capsule wardrobe, I am way too much of a mood dresser for that business!  Here’s a little recap of the last few days of the challenge!

I wore this on Friday shopping during the day and then out for happy hour with friends. The temperature was actually cool enough all day to keep the scarf on. A cargo vest is the perfect piece to add a little extra style to an otherwise plain outfit. Personally I love wearing mine because it hides back fat! Yup, I said it. If I’m wearing a tee or other knit top it’s pretty much a guarantee that there will be some type of bulge near my bra straps, the vest takes care of that! I have been chomping at the bit to wear my new camo scarf (similar). My skinny jeans and open toe booties kept me comfortable all day and night!
On Saturday night we went to dinner with Nolan and his girlfriend and then to our nephew’s annual haunt. The haunt did not disappoint and as always I am impressed by the creativity of these young people. I tried a selfie in our kitchen and then had to take a bathroom selfie of my ensemble du jour!  Hopefully you get the idea!

I chose my skinny cargo pants. It was warmer Saturday night and rainy so I chose an OTS top and this stacked stone necklace.

Sunday we said goodbye to Nolan – boo! Another cool front blew in so I was able to bundle up (Florida style – ha!) for an afternoon of grocery shopping and lunch out at the gas station! Yes, you read that right we picked up subs from Wawa. I had never had their subs before but they were good and we’re fancy like that! While the venue for our lunch date wasn’t a winner (necessarily) I thought my outfit was!  Sticking with the challenge I wore my gingham bell sleeve top from Loft but this time I wore it with a black duster and jeans. I loved the result and wearing the top layered like this kept me warm.

Monday meant back to work and another chance to wear my new camo scarf (similar). This time with my cargo pants, a blush colored button up shirt, booties, and a shearling vest. By most standards it wouldn’t be necessary to whip out a shearling vest but once it dips below 75 it’s fare game for all outerwear. We’re all like, “Hey, it’s freezing, let’s light a fire! Turn on the seat warmers, crank up the electric blanket!” Not even kidding! I’ve come to the conclusion our homes are not insulated properly. I should also add I am not complaining because I LOVE it cold!!!!!

So that’s it friends. How I ended October with the Common Threads Challenge. While it was fun mixing and matching my 5 pieces I am ready to move on and retire them for a bit. How about you? Would you ever commit to a clothing challenge?

Thanks for stopping by, I am looking forward to seeing you back here on Friday! Until then, make it a great one!

Kellyann

  1. You did it!!!! Way to go! The duster over the gingham beauty from the Loft is my favorite and you are a gem I tell ya!!! I hope you shine bright today and have a wonderful day!!

    1. Thanks Andrea, I am glad I made it to the end of the CTC – I feel like I was on a diet and now I can indulge (in my closet – ha!). I love the duster and the gingham too, turned out to be something I threw together on a whim that really worked. Bet you’re excited about your trip. The good news is we’ll have beautiful weather for you all to celebrate your sweet mom. Have the best time friend!!

  2. I’m with you- I’m a total mood dresser and while I love the concept of capsules, they are much to encapsulating for me. Love that long duster on you…sure wish I could wear short sleeves outside. Sigh. Have a great day!

    1. You wish you could wear short sleeves and I wish we had snow! Let’s swap houses for a bit, huh?
I really like the duster too and hope I get to wear it more, our weather is crazy. We had a nice little cool spell and now we’re back in the 80’s. Ugh!!!
Hope you’re having a great week Deena!

  3. I love the gingham top with that black duster, that may be my favorite fall look with that top! I also love your camo scarf. We don’t have Wawa here, but we have Quik Trip (QT) and I could go there everyday and find something to eat! lol!

    1. Thanks Carrie! I think the gingham top with the black duster is my favorite too – I actually wore it again yesterday to work on Halloween. I’m glad I’ll get more use out of the top even when it’s cooler here.
We just got Wawa a few years ago but they have taken our state by storm – they are everywhere and they have everything! I would have never believed gas station food could be so good, lol!

    1. Thanks Laura! The next challenge I need to do is a no spend challenge. I tried once and made it almost a week, ha! Darn internet makes it so easy to shop and I am always finding something I need, or at least that’s what I tell myself. Happy hump day to you my friend!

  4. I feel like your either wearing anything and everything today or maybe changing hourly to wear all the clothes you missed last month….LOL. You did a marvelous job with the challenge. I know that wasn’t easy. I couldn’t agree more about never being able to do a capsule wardrobe. The only way I’m doing that is if I’m in a capsule and they are sending me into outer space. HA! I love the gingham with the sweater and how you let the bell sleeve show. SO CUTE! The camo scarf with the vest and tee combo = darling. Back fat…whatever friend. I seriously doubt you have any. Just go braless and that will remedy that.??? I’m sitting here in the hotel room in the dark with my computer because Kent is still asleep. When he’s off, he likes to sleep a little later, but I’m always up early. Have a great day. I’ll think of you while I’m lying by the pool listening to the ocean? (heck, you live in FL…you can probably do that whenever you want) XOXO

    1. Hahaha! Me going bra-less is super scary! Not only do I have back fat but I have souffle top. That’s right, skip the muffin, this girl is going straight to souffle – not even kidding. My favorite thing was wearing the gingham bell sleeve (our top, lol) with the duster – you need to wear yours with a cute cardigan too, the sleeves makes it great.
I hope you’re enjoying every sun drenched moment in Hawaii! I bet it’s just gorgeous like you! I am in the middle of emptying out my china cabinet so the painter can paint our dining room tomorrow. Let me tell you it’s all coming to a head here and it is super messy! It looks great though, can’t wait to share some pics.
Ok, go have fun at a luau or something else exotic while the rest of us commoners count the days until the weekend, lol! Enjoy my sweet friend!!!!

    1. Thanks Carrie! That’s my favorite look too! The funny thing is that it was one I hadn’t even planned. The brief cold front made me get creative and I’m glad it did. Now I have yet another way to wear one of my favorite tops!

    1. Thanks sister Mary! I think I always knew olive was versatile but this challenge really brought that point home! I guess we’re like that old saying, “women who follow the rules rarely make history” – sounds like that is fitting for us both!

  5. LOL…I seriously wore my cargo vest yesterday for the sole purpose of hiding my back fat!! The struggle is real. hahah Love the green paired with the peach and camo. Also love the thinking outside the box with the gingham and the duster.

    1. Thanks Shelly, any chance I can get to cover the bumps and bulges I take! Hahaha! It drives me crazy but it is what it is, thank goodness we have stylish ways to conceal it.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well the duster worked with the gingham top, I love those sleeves!
