Almost Laughable

Almost laughable.  That’s how I’d describe last week.  Mostly because I spent the Summer trying to organize a decent blogging schedule, figuring out what I need to do and how I need to do it.  I even had some crock pot meals prepped and ready to go in anticipation of my return to work.  And then the bottom fell out.  Seriously every thing that could go wrong seemed to and at one point I thought no one would even believe all of this is happening, it’s almost laughable.  You name it, it happened here. Fortunately this is a new week and I know it will be better than the last. Here’s to new beginnings!

Today is the first day of school.  For me that means lots of excitement on our campus.  We’ll have parents in and out of our building all week.  Pictures will be snapped left and right and everyone will try to look their best.  Myself included.  Most likely I will not sit down until somewhere around 11:30 so I chose something comfortable and cool enough for all the running around I’ll be doing.  I have morning duty in our kindergarten hallway, one hour of lunch duty, and then kindergarten car duty.  Between those duties I’ll be calming crying and anxious children and then making sure all of our students are tagged properly with how they’ll go home.  Our administrative teams shares these duties so I am not the only one who will be completely wiped out by the end of the day!

Here’s what I chose for my first day:

Even though this Lilly Pulitzer dress is a cover up it’s long enough to wear as a casual dress. It’s also cool enough and super comfortable.

We took these photos a few weeks ago and I chose to wear my new wedges but I will wear my flat sandals to school with this dress. I think the heels make it just a little too short.

The color pink just makes me happy so whenever I can I wear it! I don’t mind at all that this dress screams Summer because it still is! We’re all hot, sweaty messes by the end of the day with our temps in the mid 90’s.

I’ll still be wearing Summer clothes for awhile to work. It’s just too hot not to. The best part of that means I can take advantage of all of the end of season sales! Labor Day is right around the corner and I plan on taking full advantage of all the great deals that will be offered, how about you? I know many of my readers live in warm weather states just like me. Shoppers unite! This is our time!

The start of a new school year, the start of a new week. I’m ready for some new beginnings and the promise that comes with all of those possibilities. Life is never without obstacles but it’s how we maneuver those obstacles that dictates our outcome. For me, I dig deep, I pray, I ask for help, I laugh when I face adversity. It’s what keeps me going, how about you?

Have a fabulous week and I’ll see you back here on Wednesday friends!

xo,
Kellyann

  1. Oh pretty in pink gal, I’m so sorry last week was full of craziness! Love your attitude and I have a feeling, this new week will be on course and full of smiles!! You’re where you are for a reason and those kids need you! That LP dress is fabulous on you!! You got this girl!! xo

    1. Awww thanks Andrea! Yes, I am most certainly where I am for a reason and it does feel good to be needed and cared for. Those rough weeks help me appreciate the mundane and it’s nice to reflect back when they’re over but boy it’s no fun when it’s all happening. Now this week the only tough spot will be returning Nolan to school on Saturday. I know you are doing that this week too. Wish we lived closer so we could commiserate in person. I’m not sure about you but I think it will be a bit better this year because having been through it last year we know what to expect. I think that first year is just so hard and such an adjustment! Cheers to a wonderful week for us all!
      Love ya sweet friend!

    1. Thanks! I guess the good thing about a rough week is how much more I appreciate a kind of boring, normal week. It’s nice to be a little drama free for a bit. This dress turned out to be a great choice for day one – I was cool and comfortable and that helped me handle all the little crises that come along with a first school day. Whew glad it’s over!

  2. Bless your heart!!! I’m so sorry last week turned into a “hot mess”. (get it, hot😜😉) The best laid plans of mice and men….right?! It’s a new week, you look beautiful and you got this! I know you’ll be wiped by the end of the day, but those little people will have such a better day when they see your pretty face in the hall or they come into you office to comforted. Good luck sweet girl. I hope it goes smoother than expected and cool front drops by. Happy first day of school Kellyann!!! XOXO

    1. Thanks Lisa, you are so sweet and know just what to say to cheer a girl up! I’m happy to report the first day went smoothly and we only have 179 more school days until Summer break!!! Hahahaha!!!One of my favorite parts of the job is lovin’ on all those upset kiddos and getting them to smile, bless their hearts school is so hard. Now that the first day is behind us I think we’re in for some smooth sailing. Now if that cool front would just drop by I’d be golden! Thanks my friend for your words of encouragement, you’re a gem!

  3. This dress looks so good on you – pink is your color! I’m with you on beefing up our current wardrobe with the upcoming sales…it is sooo hot and muggy for a couple more months down here in South Florida! 🙂 Hope you have a good week.

    1. Hi Denise! Yes, hot and muggy still for months to come, ugh. The heat index has us feeling like it’sin the 100’s which is just crazy. We can soothe ourselves with new clothes!!! Yay!!!

  4. Seems like only a blink ago you were starting your school holidays. This summer has been over far too quickly, it’s hardly touched the sides. But that dress will please a lot of kiddies, a cheerful and welcoming look. I’m sure you feel just perfect in it, Kellyann. Wishing you a happy New term.

    1. Yes, Mary, it does seem like the break went by in a blink! Thank you for your kind words sweet friend. The dress was a hit and I was super comfortable all day. I call that a win!

  5. Best dressed teacher that’s for sure! You look precious and I hope you have a much better week. I am working on trying to get my meal calendar, blogging calendar, kids activity calendar all lined up so I’ll be ready to go by August 28th!

    1. Thanks sweet Shelly! I need to get a calendar planned for the blog for like a month at a time, it’s crazy how easily things get out of control when I’m back to work and back to my super early work outs. I am exhausted!!! I hope you all enjoy your last few weeks of break, soak it up!

    1. Thanks Lana! I got lots of compliments on it, seems to have been a hit. But who doesn’t love a bright pink dress, lol!

  6. Love the pink! It is still summer and I will be wearing and blogging summer looks to the very end. Life is crazy sometimes. We have had a full year of non stop illness, death, property damage, repair and replacement, starting back around last September. Everything I do seems like it is done at the most inconvenient time, and if it wasn’t that way now, I’d think something is wrong. lol. Hope your week is better.

    1. Wow Fonda, you sure have had a lot to deal with in the last year! We had quite a bit all last week – broken car, sick child, funeral, computer problems, family drama, etc. I felt like the bottom fell out and I’d been hit upside the head. Whew! Glad it’s over. Here’s hoping life gets a little less hectic for us both, I think we deserve it, ha!

  7. Sorry to hear that your week back didn’t go as planned! Isn’t that always the case?! All the sudden I have to move rooms (and we start back 9/1!). I know I won’t be ready in time either and that first week back will hit me like a ton of bricks. That cover up works perfectly as a dress! Seriously bright pink is definitely your color!

    1. Ugh, move rooms?? That is a lot of work, bless your heart Laura! The first week back is always crazy and then everything went wrong from a sick kid to a broken down car to computer problems, etc, etc. So crazy! I hope when you go back it goes as smoothly as possible, you deserve that! Bright pink just makes me smile so when things get crazy I can at least dress happy, right?!

    2. Moving rooms? Oh no!!! That is so much work, I hope you get lots of help! Enjoy your last weeks of break and before you know it you’ll have a new baby girl to love on. How fun!
Bright pink always “brightens” my mood, I find myself reaching for it when I need a pick me up!

    1. Thanks, I was actually confused when the sales girl said it was a cover up but could be worn as a dress. It’s too heavy in my opinion for a cover up but works great as a dress!
