Graphic tees are here to stay – they have held their place in fashion for some time now. I haven’t always been a fan of them on me but have long admired them on others. That’s why I didn’t hesitate when I spotted this cute Johnny Cash graphic tee the other day. My taste in music is as eclectic as my fashion sense and I love the “Man in Black”!
Not trying to look like I am wanting to hang with the twentysomethings is usually what I am aiming for when I wear something trendy. Also? I’m not trying to look good for my age, I’m trying to look as good as I feel. Period.
So let’s take a look at some styling options for your graphic tee! Let’s start with a safe bet – a pair of jeans. I chose a distressed pair but really any denim will work. Here’s my secret for not looking like you are going to or just came from a concert – wear something on your feet other than sneakers AND add accessories!
Adding a 3rd layer is another way to elevate the look of a graphic tee while still keeping it casual. I love this lace duster. I found (and bought) a similar one in black from Kohl’s. They are kind of hidden – look for them in the accessories department not in clothing.
Of course you can’t go wrong with camo. So if you’re wondering what to wear with your camo pants the answer is a graphic tee! Any color will do!
And finally the sequin skirt from Monday with my graphic tee. I really like this and I’d throw on my denim jacket if I were going out and it was cooler. No sequin skirt? No problem. My pencil skirt collection has dwindled since I started working from home but if you have one go for it!
By adding a graphic tee you can instantly achieve a chic, casual look. The graphic tee makes the sequin skirt an anytime item rather than just something you’d wear at holidays or special occasions. You can sparkle any old day!
Here are a few tips for styling a graphic tee for the mature woman:
- buy the tee a little larger than you would normally wear so it’s not clingy and so you have the option of knotting it
- add accessories! Bling is my thing, is it yours?
- avoid shorts and sneakers with your graphic tee if you are going for a stylish look
- make sure you are comfortable with the graphic on the tee – there’s nothing worse than wearing something you thought was funny when you bought it but then feel embarrassed by it out in public!
