Summer Neutrals

As much as I love bright, vivid colors I do have a soft spot for neutrals as well. I can remember as a pre-teen watching my mom’s soap opera, The Guiding Light each afternoon. The styles caught my eye and I was especially drawn to one character in particular, Reva Shayne. She wore neutrals exclusively and always looked so chic!

All this to say, from time to time I have tried to pull this look off. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not so much. Today I’m sharing my latest venture into neutral waters with you.  This post also offers a little insight into tweaking things a bit here and there to get a better look.

Target Neutral Blouse

This sleeveless turtleneck is from Target and is only available online. It’s the brand Prologue. The print reminds me of chic camo. Originally I ordered a small but it was way too tight in the bust so I returned it and ordered a medium. Pairing it with my cropped wide leg pants from Old Navy (option) was easy and created the perfect summer neutral outfit.

To keep things interesting when wearing neutrals it’s nice to mix things up with texture. I added my straw circle bag (similar) and favorite pendant necklace from Accessory Concierge. My Tommy Hilfiger wedges (similar) from Macy’s may be old but I still love them. Something else I love? All the arm candy! My boho cuff from Victoria Emerson and my Kendra Scott bracelets.

After a little tweaking!

So here’s where it comes in handy to take some pictures and then evaluate what works and what doesn’t. After taking a few shots I added straps to my strapless bra (similar) for more support and added my hair topper! Both gave me more lift!

Before the tweaking!

So what’s the lesson here? Take a good look at things. If you happen to have a convertible strapless bra like mine from Soma, try it different ways. Also? If you hair is thin or thinning – try a clip in hair piece. Honestly, it makes a world of difference! You can read about my experience here.

This summer turtleneck from Target comes with a belt. I am short waisted, big busted, and thicker through the middle – belts don’t necessarily work for me. Once I removed the belt I liked it much better. Take a look at it with the belt.

The proportions are all wrong! By adding the halter straps to my Soma strapless bra and removing the belt I get a much better look. Did you happen to notice I am wearing the earrings I mentioned last week? Target Prologue Sleeveless Blouse and Old Navy Cream Cropped Pants

Since Prologue is only available online at Target I thought I’d point out this dress (misses sizes)in the same print as my top.
Are you a fan of neutrals? Honestly I think wearing one color head to toe (also referred to as column dressing) is a great idea and anything but boring. Playing with textures and pattern keep it fun and chic. I hope you enjoyed today’s post and I look forward to seeing you back here on Wednesday!
