I look young in this picture right? Finally, all my anti aging skin care is working! It’s about time. Bwah, hahahahaha!!! Really, this beauty is my niece Carly, a soon to be 13 year old, lacrosee lovin’, super smart girl with a heart of gold. Today she’s joining me for a little fashion fun.
About a month ago I had the pleasure of back to school shopping with my darling niece Carly. Now that she’s a little older we’ve started this new tradition. Last year we had lunch at the American Girl Store and went shopping. This year we went shopping and out to dinner. Now that she’s a 7th grader she likes places like Francesca’s and Hollister, our days of Justice are a thing of the past! The good news is that I love Francesca’s too, so shopping is extra fun! On our first outing we picked up two super cute tops for her. While she was in the fitting room I spied this pink beauty because as you well know I have an affinity for all things pink! I was determined to shop only for her so I put it back on the rack. Then two weeks ago we went shopping again, this time she grabbed the top and tried it on, it was so cute on her! When we went to check out we discovered it was 40% off. You know what that meant, I grabbed one too! Is it okay for your almost 50 year old aunt to wear the same top as you? Carly thinks so, so today I bring you pink for the ages! Get ready for picture overload…
Do you think that some colors are too young for women of a certain age? Sometimes bright pink is thought of as a young color. But for me pink is a state of mind, it makes my heart happy and I try to reach for it whenever I can. As you can see, I styled my top differently than Carly did. My outfit is work appropriate but could easily work for a night out. Carly looks ready to take on whatever 7th grade has in store for her in her cropped denim and comfy sandals. One thing is for sure about this top of ours, it is versatile! I was unable to find our top online so check below where I’ve linked some fabulous tops for a similar look!
Just like some colors are thought of as ‘young’ so are some stores. Take for example, Forever 21. I don’t shop there often, in fact most of the time I buy online from them. In the past when I’ve been in the store and I’m headed to the fitting room I feel like I’m getting the side eye from the moms who are in there with their daughters. Almost like I can hear them saying, “Really lady? Grow up. Forever 21 is just a name they don’t really mean it!” or “Scram! Head on down to Loft or Chico’s!” It doesn’t really bother me though because I’ll shop where I like and buy what I like.
When I was growing up my mom, my sister and I always shared clothes and shoes too. We had three times the wardrobe which was awesome! Now, as a mother of boys, I have no one to share clothes with but I sure do enjoy shopping with my niece Carly. Through and through I am a boy mom but God blessed me with three nieces to get my girl fix!
So, what do you think? Does hot pink work for any age? I think it’s all in the styling of a piece. I’m not trying to look like a teenager and Carly definitely isn’t trying to look like she’s 50! While we’re wearing the same top we styled it differently so I say it’s a win for us both! I am wearing a very old pair of black dress pants from Express. These are similar. I’m also wearing my go to wedges and my favorite necklace by Kendra Scott.
Thanks so much for stopping by! If you enjoyed this post please consider sharing it with a friend, I love new followers.
Have the best weekend friends! We are headed to Gainesville to take our oldest son (Nolan) back to UF to begin his sophomore year. While I’ll miss him like crazy I feel pretty good about bringing him this year. Last year was filled with so much uncertainty. When we left him there he looked like a deer in the headlights. This year he’s going to be living in a townhouse with three other friends and he knows what to expect. I know what to expect too!
I’ll see you back here on Monday!

Kellyann
