Old Navy Summer Essentials

With the first official day of summer behind us and the 4th of July less than 2 weeks away, we are knee deep in the season of shorts, cute tops, and cool dresses! I happened to drop into the Old Navy store near my house and tried on a few summer essentials I think you’ll love.

Old Navy is a great option for the whole family’s clothing needs. They cover the gamut of wardrobe staples but also have plenty of on-trend styles as well. Always affordable, the quality can sometimes be questionable but a discerning eye can scope out some super finds.

In the Fitting Room

Let’s start with what I wore because these linen pants are a purchase from last year. I want another pair in olive but in store they did not have my size. Let me tell you, these are the best! I have washed and tried them so many times and they continue to wear so well. It looks like my color (flax) is sold out online but there are other colorways, I wear a small in these for reference.

Summer essentials have to include some good shorts and Old Navy has lots of options! Pull on shorts, linen shorts, tailored shorts, denim shorts – they have them all! For reference I grabbed mediums or size 6 in all of these shorts and they all fit well.

Nothing says summer like seersucker, am I right? Paired with a sweet little white blouse with eyelet sleeves and this combo is a match made in hot weather heaven!

These little Pixie shorts were a surprise for me – as soon as I put them on I was impressed! They felt so good. They almost have a smoothing panel – I think they’ll look great with a blazer.

This cute tee was super soft and so happy! I liked it more than I thought I would. This little outfit would make such a cute vacation outfit.

This shirt is so soft! I was so impressed that despite the wrinkles, this came home with me! So did the shorts, they are so lightweight and so incredibly comfortable.

My friend Amy has this top in 3 colors and definitely influenced me! She was right – the fabric is top notch – feels like great quality. I am wearing it in a small. I bought this one!

I did not, however, buy the shorts. I was really just looking for something to try on with the shirt.

Summer means dress season for me. I love a casual, easy dress! I opted for longer dresses that would allow me to wear a regular bra. In store, I saw some very cute halter styles and a crochet version I loved but it seemed more of a body con dress.

The first dress is a gauzy fabric, I’ll be honest I didn’t love the feel. The color was spectacular! I tried all 3 of these dresses in a size medium – I may have liked this better in a small. The second dress is a French terry and meant to be worn as a bathing suit cover up. I plan to wear it as more of a dressing gown. It’s soft and comfy, perfect for lounging – definitely a summer wardrobe essential! The last dress also comes in a pretty blue and white stripe, which of course they did not have in my size in store. The fit was horrible on me! Too low cut, the shoulders wouldn’t stay up – with a larger chest and a short waist, this is bound to happen. But the dress is cute and the fabric was cotton.

These Summer Essentials Came Home with Me

I decided to purchase the Pixie shorts, the pink pull on shorts, the pink boyfriend shirt, the blue and white shirt, and the French terry dress. With all the discounts I paid $120.00. So, as you can see, the price point on these pieces is very good.

Why Shop Old Navy?

Old Navy has been around for some time and since they are part of the Gap – Banana Republic family, they lean a little towards those classic styles. They are at the lower end of the price range and there’s always a sale. Over the years I’ve purchased lots of things from ON and never really had any trouble with quality – other than sweaters pilling. That being said, I am trying to be more discerning and pay close attention to fit. I have found it a bit easier to shop online, many of the styles I was interested in were not available in my size in store. Online purchases are easy to return in store or you can simply print a label and make your return by mail for free. Easy peasy! So I say shop Old Navy if you’re looking for budget friendly, stylish pieces for summer.
