Off the Shoulder Over 50

This top made me break my own rule. Honestly, I had decided I was not buying another off the shoulder top. Why? It has nothing to do with my age and everything to do with the fact that I noticed I just didn’t reach for my off the shoulder tops very much so why buy more? Silly me. It seems to always work that way; I swear something off only to turn right around and embrace it! Check out what made me say yes in my post off the shoulder over 50!

The only thing that truly matters when it comes to fashion is how YOU feel in something. Wanna wear off the shoulder over 50? Go right ahead! Generally speaking, our shoulders are very alluring and an area a lot of us enjoy showing off. Even if you don’t love the bicep/tricep part of your arm, the shoulder isn’t usually an area we complain about. When was the last time you heard someone say, ‘if I could just lose that stubborn shoulder fat!” Am I right???

Things to Look for in an Off the Shoulder Top

What sealed the deal for me on this off the shoulder top is its construction. It’s thick and sturdy cotton but there is no boning sewn in. so it is comfortable. So many OTS tops that came before this one were rayon/polyester blends and were usually flowy. This did no favors for my larger chest. But this one?? Holds everything in! It zips up the back and drapes beautifully. I really like the short sleeves and the fact that it’s lined. This beautifully made top is easy to style and instantly elevates an outfit!

Our over 50 bodies deserve clothing made of quality fabric and good design. For me that seems to make all the difference. You can see what a nice job this top does of providing support. I am wearing my favorite strapless bra btw.

Not sure you can pull off an OTS top over 50? Try this – moisturize and add a little color. I get it, sometimes we aren’t so thrilled with how our skin looks. At 56 my skin is not what it used to be, it’s definitely not as firm and I can see some crepey texture. My suggestion is to exfoliate and moisturize! Most of us know that exfoliating the skin on our faces is important but we forget about our bodies, that skin needs it too! I’m always on board with a self tanner as well or a body make up that doesn’t transfer.

Outfit Ideas

First things first when it comes to outfit ideas – start with denim! I love the juxtaposition of this tailored and structured top with casual bottoms like denim. Especially a lighter wash denim with a raw hem.

This time of year a good pair of shorts works too. This pair is from Loft, I like the length and that flat front.

A pair of pants or even a trouser works beautifully too if you don’t want to show too much leg. This pair of pull on pants is textured and from a collaboration I did with Uppants. I linked a similar pair.

Finally a slip skirt pairs beautifully with this OTS top. I think the slit in the skirt looks great with the hem of the top.
