Not So Favorite Friday

Hey friends! Today will not be my usual Friday Favorites. The anniversary of 9/11 has me feeling all kinds of things and writing about something kind of superficial isn’t sitting well with me. Not that I won’t be reading all of my favorite blogs and their Friday Favorites, because I will! I just felt the need to get some things down on “paper”if you will.

In the words of Alan Jackson (I LOVE him BTW), “Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?” I remember it well. All too well. At the time I was a stay at home mom with my boys, ages 1 & 3. I also took care of my new born nephew. Watching the events unfold on TV was unreal. What happened afterward was even more so.

We lost our innocence that day. The whole world did. My kids will never know what it’s like to enjoy going to pick someone up at the airport and greeting them as they step off the plane. They’ll never know what it’s like to enter a crowded gathering without having bags searched.

The truth is that I always relive that day on September 11 but this year it feels even more difficult. Here we are 19 years later with a pandemic on our hands and once again we’ve lost our innocence. Temperatures are taken, masks are worn, hugs are not allowed, and our kids can’t even enjoy school.

Just like we can never go back to the way life was on September 10, 2001, I am left to wonder what we will never enjoy again. What did we take for granted previously that we will now realize was a gift?

Anyway, that’s what’s on my heart today. I am not depressed or down, I am my usual jovial self but I am feeling pensive and reflective.

So, there are no favorite purchases this week or tips to share, except this one: “faith, hope, and love are the good things he gave us. And the greatest is love” again compliments of Alan Jackson. I do hope we can love one another better. There’s so much negativity and hate with COVID and the presidential race. Let’s go back to what really matters, shall we?

See you back here on Monday and btw – Congratulations to Susanne S. !She won the self tanner giveaway! I’ve been in contact with her already and I cannot wait for her to receive her tanning lotion and tan extender!
