Listen to Your Inner Voice

It dawned on me that lately I have heard so many are struggling with decision fatigue. Have you heard the term? It’s gaining in popularity. Bottom line, we are all overwhelmed with the influx of NOISE. That’s what it is, I was going to say information but decided to go with what I meant instead. It’s noise.

We live in a time where information is accessible to us with just a click of a mouse or by typing in a search bar a simple question. Suddenly we are thrust into a never ending spiral of opinions. That’s really what they are – opinions. You conduct a search using ChatGPT or maybe just type something into the search bar and the result is a list of many opinions. Who do you trust? How do you decipher?

Decisions that used to take mere moments now drag on for days. What washing machine to buy? What’s the best diet? Exercise? Blah, blah, blah. Years ago when we needed a new appliance we went to Sears and spoke to the salesperson, made a decision and a purchase. Once Home Depot and Lowe’s entered the picture we started doing some comparison shopping. Now before we ever leave the house we have looked online and started a spreadsheet (that’s my husband not me – ha!). You get the drift. It’s not entirely bad of course, we want to make a good purchase and spend wisely. The problem is the behavior.

If you get so caught up – and this is not for everyone – in researching to the nth degree every move you make, you can become fatigued and paralyzed. Not able to move forward or back but stuck. Here’s what I say – turn down the noise. It’s impossible to turn it off completely BUT turn it down. Give yourself some space. Trust yourself and the process. Walk by faith and not fear. I believe the answers are given to you and that you know them but sometimes the noise keeps you from hearing clearly. Listen to your inner voice, your gut, your intuition.

Please don’t think I am merely speaking about purchases, like appliances. That was just an example. It applies to everything you do in life, the decisions you make. I believe this is how we live out most authentic lives – by tuning out the voices and listening to our own and what guides us. I find the most solace in my prayer time and maybe you do too. Or maybe it’s different for you. If life feels chaotic and overwhelming, listen to your inner voice to know what to do about it. You may not always like the answer but one thing I know for sure, the chaos will continue until you take action and do what needs to be done.

My inner voice is telling me you can do this and I know you can! If you are reading these words right now know this: I want you to live your best life, your happy and fulfilled life. Trusting your inner voice and operating from a place of faith and not fear will get you there!
