Kimono on Over

Kimono on over and see what I’ve styled today! Hahahahahaha!! See what I did there? I could have said, “Come on Over” but I got crafty. Hope you got it, I’m cracking myself up over here.  Seriously in this picture I was telling my husband how I was titling this post and we both cracked up, well actually I laughed and he told the dog, “Oh Sophie mommy’s getting funny.” But Sophie thinks I’m awesome and I know she was cracking up. Oh well, we’re easily amused.

Last week I showed my kimono and hinted at other ways it could be styled. So I feel like I warned you that this might happen and here it is! I enjoy wearing kimonos with denim, shorts, and sometimes even skirts or dresses. The possibilities are limitless you just have to do what you like and what you’re comfortable in. But a kimono can be a great transition piece between seasons and in some cases can add just the right amount of coverage if you’re feeling too exposed.

Take a look at the ways I’ve styled my kimonos:

Since I talked about the latest addition to my kimono collection here today I’ll share details about the other looks with you. Before we get into it though let me share that a kimono is a Japanese traditional garment. The word “kimono” actually means a “thing to wear” according to Wikipedia. Some people actually refer to this type of garment as a poncho too but I always think of a poncho as being something that goes over the head and has no arm holes. Whatever you call it, it’s a fun piece to style!

This first look is probably my favorite because of the Boho vibe. I purchased this kimono at the end of last Summer from American Eagle. It’s perfect with denim cut offs, a swingy camisole, espadrille wedges ,a hat, and some fun accessories. I linked similar espadrille wedges from Macy’s because mine are sold out. Although I had a reader (Hi Mandy!) share with me that she found mine at the Gap Outlet for $20! What a deal, I LOVE mine!

The next look is one I’ve worn to work. Keep in mind I work in an elementary school so my dress code may be more relaxed. This kimono is a few years old and I purchased it online from Forever 21. It pairs perfectly with these blue shorts from Kohl’s – they’re a few years old as well but I love the color. I kept the same camisole and shoes but I’m wearing a colorful tassel necklace.

I purchased this Kimono earlier this month from Marshall’s. It still has the tags on it, I paid a whopping $14.99 for it. I paired it with this dress. You may remember I’ve mentioned before that I own it in pink and blue, it is a terrific value at under $50. I am wearing my fancy Vionics.  Haha! I’ll probably wear this on the cruise we’re taking very soon (I need to pack, ugh). While the dress is fine alone the kimono will keep me from freezing in the air conditioning.

My last look features a very old kimono – about three years old and my even older distressed denim from Loft.  I love the fringe on this one but it gets tangled in the wash.  It’s from Forever 21 too.  I am wearing one of my favorite necklaces from Baublebar.

You may have noticed in almost every picture of me I am wearing pretty much the same jewelry. I LOVE finding new and fun pieces but I seem to gravitate towards the same pieces in my collection over and over again. Most are from Accessory Concierge like my leopard cuff and tassel necklace. I wear my Kendra Scott necklace several times a week because it works with EVERYTHING! It’s such a good piece to own, I’d really like one in hot pink!

So, how do you feel about kimonos now? Are you ready to add one to your closet or if you own one already are you thinking of styling it differently? I hope so because that’s what’s in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today!

I look forward to seeing you back here on Wednesday friends!

Kellyann
