Keep the Joy

Are you guilty of this? I know I am! Usually I find myself stressing about the little details and end up talking myself out of something. If its an event I am going to I over think the traffic, the parking, what shoes to wear, what time I’ll get home, etc. See? All the little details that steal the joy!

It’s not just events that I overthink. I enjoy a good overthinking session about gifts, dinners, hosting, how late I can stay up, I find that when it comes to this, I am an equal opportunity offender. What benefit does it serve?

Sometimes, It’s a way to protect my peace and keep me in mine with my goals. So it can be a good thing. Furthermore when I overthink something once, it’s a one and done. I learn and then it’s not such a big deal in the future. BUT, there are times it prevents me from being in the moment, enjoying new experiences, and getting a good night’s sleep!

Here’s how I plan to keep the joy this season:

  • challenge my stinking thinking (when’s the last time I was late for something?)
  • relax and give myself some grace – if I am enjoying myself at a night time event, I will allow myself to cancel my workout plans in the morning and sleep in!
  • recognize the anxiety I experience and where it’s stemming from
  • eat well – high protein and fat work best for me; limit carbs and say no to sugar
  • keep my workout routine as much as possible
  • go to bed on time most nights (9:30pm)
  • limit adult beverages (they mess with my sleep)
  • I’m going to share the load with my husband and others; why do I need to do it all? I don’t! But I cannot expect others to read my mind, so I will ASK for help.

Anything resonate with you from this list? I hope so! Let me know in the comments if there is anything you’d add, I always appreciate your input.
