Today is the first official day of fall. For me that means it’s honestly okay to start pulling out all the fall goodness even the weather disagrees it is definitely fall. Today I’d like to share some tips for looking and feeling fabulous this season – after all, this season calls for social outings and for some, the first time in a long time we can get together with friends and loved ones! Now if that isn’t a reason to look fabulous this fall I don’t know what is!
Tip #1 Take Care of Yourself
If you haven’t already started, make sure your skincare regimen is doing what you expect it to do. I am a firm believer in aging with grace so I’m not into the gimmicks about looking 10 years younger yada, yada, yada. I just want to look as good as I feel. When I look in the mirror I want to see someone who looks energized and happy. That’s what my skincare regimen does for me. You can check out my skincare post here.

How about your make up? Maybe a tweak or two is required. Is it time to go a little lighter with the bronzer? Maybe change out your foundation for a lighter shade? How about your nail polish? All of these things are worth your consideration and go a long way in helping us feel confident.
Tip #2 Try Out a New Trend
Has something caught your eye lately? The start of a new season is a great time to add a trend or two but let’s not go overboard. I don’t like to spend too much on trends and thank goodness it’s not necessary. But that doesn’t mean I want to wear something that looks cheap. Over the age of 40 and definitely 50, fabric is important. Leave the cheap fabrics to the younger girls and let’s focus on wearing fabrics that do our bodies justice! I have been so impressed with the pieces I’ve been seeing at Walmart and Target – it is possible to buy some fabulous pieces at a bargain!

I’ll say this, Walmart does a terrible job marketing their pieces. If you look at the stock photos you’re sure to miss out – you need to take some chances and have a little imagination. For example, this trendy sweater vest would look amazing over this career day shirt but the stock photo screams frumpy.
Take for example, this cropped cardigan. I feel it’s a trendy look but I was curious and figured why not?! Here is how I would wear it 3 different ways:
It’s nice when you can wear a trendy piece more than one way, don’t you think?
Tip #3 Find Pieces that Pop
There is a difference between fashion and style. Fashion is what is produced for consumers to purchase while style is what we do with it. So while you’re buying fashion how you plan to style those pieces is what matters most. Add jewelry – a piece or two that makes the outfit pop. Or maybe you have a signature piece, then incorporate that. How about taking your classic pieces and adding a colorful scarf or shoe?
Tip #4 Purge Your Wardrobe
This is a great time to remove pieces that no longer fit or need repair. Either donate, sell, or toss them but don’t keep them. They merely get in the way of those things you want to wear! Make sure to go through not just your closet, but your dresser drawers as well and inspect shoes and accessories too. List those pieces on Poshmark to earn extra money that you can re-invest in your wardrobe. I’ve listed lots of pieces on Poshmark lately and it’s been so easy. The things I listed are not necessarily things I don’t like but as a blogger my closet is always changing!
Tip #5 Add Texture
Fall means cozy and nothing says cozy like texture! Think of sweaters, flannels, suede, leather, faux leather, you get the idea. The same principles you apply to decorating your home can be applied to getting dressed. So take a look at what you’re wearing and see where you can add some texture -sure you could wear black denim but what if you swapped your denim for faux leather? Voila! You’ve just successfully added texture and interest!
I thought it would be fun to see the difference in two outfits. I swapped the pants and shoes but kept everything else the same, which do you prefer?
Thanks so much for stopping by today, it means the world to me! Let me know if you enjoyed today’s post in the comments section below, I love to connect with others.
