Cutting the Mustard

To reach the required standards; come up to expectations. Why that’s what the old saying “cutting the mustard” means. Have you heard it before? It’s what popped into my head when I started planning this post. Mustard is one of those colors that not everyone can wear, or can they? I’ll be the first to admit it is not a color I reach for any other time of the year but Fall. My coloring doesn’t lend well to having it up near my face but that doesn’t stop me from wearing it layered as a cardigan or as pants.

Last week we were fortunate to have a few days of cool temperatures so I busted out my old mustard cardigan. I have had this cardigan for several years now. In the past I’ve worn it with my blue and white gingham blouse and I loved the way it looked. When I wore it last week (a day I was obviously going rogue as far as the common thread challenge goes) I decided to keep the blouse simple and add color with my pants and scarf. The colors in the scarf work better close to my face than the color of the cardigan. You might wonder why I’d even want a cardigan in a color that isn’t flattering on me. There probably isn’t a really good answer except it looks good with so many other colors and just kind of screams Fall to me.If you are wondering what to pair mustard with just think of how it appears in nature; the color of the leaves and other greenery for starters. Mustard also pairs nicely with leopard, but then again doesn’t everything pair nicely with leopard? Why yes, yes it does! Did you notice my favorite leopard cuff? I think an infinity scarf is always a good idea- no fuss, no muss, they style themselves!
Well friends, that about does it for me today. We are nearing the finish line of our kitchen renovation and these last few steps have been the hardest. We had the interior of our home painted and replaced the tile around our fireplace. Every room in the house has been disturbed by this process so there is literally no clean, neat organized space and it is driving me CRAZY! Thank goodness we shot these photos last week! I am hoping to share photos of all of this madness soon, it really is coming together beautifully and I am extremely grateful that we’re doing this!

Make it a great weekend friends!

Kellyann
