It’s hard to remember a time when jeans were just jeans, ya know? If you had a pair or two that’s all you needed. Well that time is long gone. Now with so many different stylings your jeans are in a category all their own (and probably occupy a decent amount of real estate in your closet). Today I am sharing my recent obsession: cropped flares. Can you wear cropped flares over 50? Yes. But how? You put them on, one leg at a time. Ha!
On Friday I shared how I have purchased not one but two pair in the last month. In today’s post I am wearing these button fly flare leg cropped jeans from Old Navy. Boy that felt like a mouthful. I shop online all the time but I can imagine asking, “excuse me, can you please show me your button fly flare leg cropped denim?” Say what? But I digress. I liked these online because of the darker wash and the flare. I wasn’t sure I’d like the button fly but it doesn’t bother me at all so I’m keeping these!
The rise is high enough to be comfortable and there’s no muffin top. I am wearing a size 4 in these so I’d say they fit TTS. They have some stretch in them but not so much they slide down. Since it is still technically winter I styled them with a jacket and open toe booties. Keep in mind I live in FL so this is about as winter as it gets on a daily basis. I realize this may not fly in your neck of the woods but spring is coming!
I am wearing stripes with stripes and a little leopard around the waist. I just think it is way more interesting when you play with patterns and prints. I think this works because the stripes are in the same color family but different sizes. And leopard? Well that cool cat is a neutral and goes with everything! P.S. My top is here.
So did I actually wear this outfit? Yes I did. All day Friday. Until we left to go out to meet friends for happy hour. I got chilly and needed a heavier jacket and swapped this lightweight one out for a dark blue one.
Since it will be in the high 80’s here all week I wanted to style my cropped flares for warmer weather. When the Hi Sugar Plum Resort Collection launched at Nordstrom the end of January I fell hard for this hi-low tank (plus). I love the color and the cute tie detail in the back.
See how it’s longer in the back? And look at the tie. It is darling. Even my husband liked this top, he said the color looked good on me! If you’re not a fan of pink (and that would be a shame) it does come in two prints – one tropical and one that is yellow with pink roses. On my feet are my favorite wedges from last year.
In my opinion nothing says spring like pairing pink and turquoise. Out came one of my favorite necklaces and the Kendra Scott ring I had been drooling over and finally bought when it went on sale. Yes it’s big but I love it and wish I could wear it every day.
I’d like to add that I don’t wear expensive jewelry but I regularly stalk BaubleBar and Accessory Concierge. BaubleBar has great pieces that don’t turn black. The gold necklace I am wearing in the above photos? I’ve had it for well over a year. Still looks as good as new. My beaded and tasseled necklace is from Accessory Concierge, it’s at least two years old and still wears like a dream. Kendra Scott is my go to brand for pieces I wear daily without worry that they’ll turn black or turn my skin green. I wear this cuff bracelet every day. While you may look at these sites and think the prices are high but these pieces are worth it – I currently have a bag of jewelry I am getting rid of from places like Loft, Macy’s, and Kohl’s. They don’t stand the test of time.
I’ll be back this week with the other pair of cropped flares I purchased from Gap. There are so many fun hems on jeans this year, have you tried any? Have any caught your eye? With so many trendy pieces out there I think it’s key to find what works best for you. The cropped flares I have are kind of subtle in their flare – they don’t look like short bell bottoms and that’s why I like them on me. I hope you’ll be inspired to take a chance and try something new and different for you. I swear that’s the best way to keep from falling into the frump trap. Are your jeans in need of an update?
Speaking of updates, thanks for stopping by. My blog is still recovering form a crash back in January and some updates that caused my email subscribers list to disappear. Please be sure to sign up to follow me by email at the right or on your mobile device under the “Meet the Blonde” tab, I sure appreciate it!
Make this Monday awesome my friends!
