Sometimes simple is best. Nothing is more simple than a basic black outfit, or a column if you will. That sounds fancy but it’s really just a black top and pants. Just by swapping out a topper and accessories you can take this basic black outfit to different levels.
Let’s start with my basic black outfit. Not bad on it’s own but I think it could look better.
Adding a denim jacket is a super easy way to add a little extra somethin’! This time of year an extra layer is probably a necessity as well. I love the peplum hem on this jacket.
You can easily dress up a basic black outfit with a pretty, long cardigan. I bought this one over a year ago on sale at White House Black Market but have yet to wear it. Not sure why because it feels so luxurious! The tip here is don’t hesitate to think an item is too dressy to wear with jeans and a tank top.
By swapping my black sock boots for the snake print booties the outfit is a little dressier, don’t you think? Still just as comfortable but the black boots keep the focus on the pretty cardigan. Although it’s hard to tell in the photos, this cardigan has the prettiest sheen to it and the loveliest neutral colors.
And finally I am sharing something that just absolutely does not work on me. But oh how I thought it did until I saw the photos. I ordered this hi lo top. And let me tell you I thought I was ready for the runway! After seeing the photos I realized that what I thought I looked like was not reality. So, it was returned.
I guess you win some, you lose some. But boy was I hopeful this would work!I guess the moral of the story is to keep it simple; there’s no need to try something outlandish. Work with what you have, don’t try too hard and you can style a basic black outfit in a myriad of ways!
