One Top Two Ways

I used to have a problem. I would buy an outfit and wear it the same way. Each and every single time. Yep, if I bought a blouse and pants together that’s how I wore it. I rarely mixed pieces. In my mind I categorized things and that’s how they stayed. Not that it’s a crime, and there are no self help books on the subject that I’m aware of. The problem is that you’ll end up with a very limited wardrobe and things might get, dare I say, boring? Let’s change that starting today, okay? Because today I’m sharing a top I recently purchased and I’ll show you two ways I plant to wear it. One for play and one for work!

I fell in love with this peplum tank and immediately started scheming ways to style it. Since I’ve changed my previous bad habits (mentioned above) I try to think of things I already own to pair something with before I invite it into my closet. In this case I knew I owned at least a few things but I also wanted to add a pair of pink shorts and so I bought these scalloped darlings in light pink. The old me would have categorized these two pieces as an outfit that should be worn together at all times but that’s not the case anymore!

So here’s the outfit as purchased. This peplum tank is terrific, not just because of the vibrant colors and print but also because of the fabric. It’s a linen blend so it won’t fade or pill as some cotton tops do. The scalloped shorts are great too. If you don’t own anything from J. Crew or J. Crew Factory you’re missing out, their pieces are classic and well made. They have frequent sales as well so NEVER pay full price!

Get ready for some crazy hair pictures.  The wind was blowing and it was hotter than hot when we took these.  With our afternoon and evening rain taking pictures for the blog has become super tricky so we’re taking them whenever we can.

I almost bought green shorts to go with this top but then I rememberedmy green pants (similar) and I knew they’d be perfect. The end result is an outfit that would be perfect for work, church, shopping, just about anything! I could easily add a jacket or cardigan to cover my arms. I am wearing my super comfortable Vionics . I cannot say enough about these shoes and how comfortable they are; if you have any kind of foot pain you should give these a try. They have a cushioned metatarsal pad which is why they are so good on my feet but they also keep your foot and ankle in proper alignment so they’re good for other issues too (plantar fasciitis anyone?).

Maybe you own a colorful top but you’ve been wearing it with the same old bottoms, why not shake things up and try something new? Buy pieces that offer possibilities and you’ll easily expand your wardrobe. One top two ways is what’s in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today, what’s in yours?

  1. You shine in these brights you beautiful babe! I love the colors. I adore when you show us two ways to wear something. These colors, they do scream Summer fun! I hope you have a wonderful weekend my darling friend! xo

    1. Thanks Andrea! Green and pink are my favorite colors to combine so this print was perfect for me! Have a fabulous weekend, we are leaving for a 7 day cruise on Sunday and I haven’t packed a thing, I better get busy, hahaha!!! I am a notorious over-packer so I’m not too concerned but I am excited and I’m bringing my new, white necklace with me! Love you girl!

    1. Makes all the difference when we start mixing things up, right? You should get the scalloped shorts, you’d look great in them!

    1. When we know better we do better, right? I have to keep telling myself that, lol! Thanks Jennie!

  2. I use to have the same issue Kellyann! My closet was SO limited. I do the same now…really try to make sure an item can stretch across several looks. I LOVE the green with this, so pulls out all the colors. And those scalloped shorts look perfect on you…I received yesterday and sadly I really think they are just a tad too short for me to sport. 🙁 Have a super weekend!

    1. I know what you mean about these scalloped shorts, they are just about too short for my liking, and extra inch would have been perfect! I love the color so much so I decided to keep them. The green really looks great with this print, it is my favorite!

  3. Those sandals had me at plantar fasciitis!
Vibrant summer colours, love the print and that green is delicious. Looking so good Kellyann. And yes, it’s easy to make up an outfit and believe the work is done but a wardrobe invite shouldn’t be extended to a one hit wonder if it is to earn its keep.

    1. Thanks Lisa, I always like to see how much mileage I can get from a piece. Helps to justify my purchase, at least that’s what I tell myself (and my husband), lol!
