Jean Shorts

Every Summer I ask myself if this is the Summer I retire my jean shorts.  And by that I mean wearing all jean shorts not just one single pair because I own a few.  Maybe it’s because they seem so young and I’m afraid I’m too old.  Maybe because I’m afraid I style them “too young” or look like I’m trying too hard.  I’m not sure of the reason but I go through this every year.  So now as I get ready to usher in my final year of 40’s at the end of the week I’ve come up with a resounding “No” as this year’s answer.  Take that age appropriate fashion rules.  In your face.

So this pair is a few years old from American Eagle.  They are slightly distressed and I love the color.  They are also super comfortable and happen to be my favorite pair.  In fact as I type this I’m not sure why I don’t reach for them more often.  Today I am sharing two ways to style them, both are relaxed because I can’t think of a way I could possibly dress these shorts up.  I’m sure there is an uber cool blogger who can but I know my limitations.

The first look is sort of Boho inspired.  My top is old from Forever 21.  I don’t really shop there anymore for myself.  Of course if you’re willing to put in the time there are some great pieces to be had.  I own a few things from them that have stood the test of time.  This top works well with the shorts and my tassel necklace.  Wearing my favorite espadrille wedges from Gap. This stone fringe pendant for under $12 would look great. This top would be the perfect color to pair with the necklace in turquoise! Of course a cute hat like this fedora for under $20 would be a fabulous and functional addition!

My second look features a new top I picked up at Loft over the weekend. I just adore this top. It’s soft, I love the sleeves, and the color is so pretty. I knew when I saw it I would wear it with my jean shorts but I know it will be great with white denim as well.

What do you think of wearing jean shorts over 40? Actually I should ask what you think of someone who is almost 50 wearing jean shorts. There are so many hard and fast rules in our everyday lives, do we need to follow them when it comes to fashion? I think not. For me at least as long as I feel comfortable in what I am wearing I will wear what I like. I hope you will too. That’s what’s in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today!

I am always afraid I am going to style mine too young too. They are such a great closet staple, I have to have them! These look so cute on you! And the length is great!

Hey Kellyann, 40s for denim! I plan to keep wearing my denim shorts however I think I do need to update them. I have longer ones that I bought from American Eagle because I think I thought I was cool for buying them there lol. We were actually looking for shirts for boys so it was an impulse buy but I like them OK. Time to look for a pair that is fashionable, fit well with a little cool factor.

Oh how I wish I had consulted you before this morning. I’m doing something I haven’t done in years… A job interview! Hoping I pulled everything together OK. It’s not blog worthy but as long as the interview goes well I’ll be happy. Lisa

Here’s what I say about you wearing jean shorts…you look GREAT! Both looks are adorable and I’m loving your new top from Loft. See there, yet another one I haven’t noticed yet. I’ve got 4 more months in my 40’s, so I’m just a little ahead of you. It’s funny how I’m now looking at stuff and thinking, “am I too OLD to wear that?”. UGH!!! So great we have this awesome community of women around the same age to look to for support, guidance, sharing, and inspiration. Rock on with those jean shorts!!! You’ve still got it girl! XOXO

Two great ways to style your jean shorts! I seriously love the coral and turquoise combination. I think you look great in these shorts and I like the longer length. I wouldn’t plan on hanging up my denim shorts any time soon if I were you. Thanks for linking up!
