The Holiday Series: Wedding Attire

Here we are in the middle of the holiday hustle and bustle and you get invited to a wedding! Stop what you’re doing and head to the chapel to see two people promise to love and cherish one another. This time of year is a perfect time for weddings with all the halls already decked in their holiday finest. But now you have to do the same with yourself – get dressed in your finest and celebrate a happy union.

Speaking of happy unions today is another collaboration with Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood.. I can’t wait to see what everyone decides to wear!

Admittedly it’s been awhile since we’ve been to a wedding. We’re in that stage of life where our friends are all married and our kids aren’t quite old enough to. I’m sure that will all change in a few years though!

I chose a simple yet classic black faux wrap dress (similar, plus size option). Mine is several years old and it’s from Target! I found it on the clearance rack one day for less than $10! It is an incredible dress with a built in shaper.

My black boots (similar) are comfortable and dressy enough to wear to a wedding. I added a short leopard coat (similar) because it was chilly.

My necklace (option) is another oldie but goodie. It’s from the Betsey Johnson line at Macy’s. It’s a lot of fun and with a plain black dress it takes up the glamour factor just enough. My bracelet is a terrific wardrobe staple. You can dress it up or down. I’m carrying a simple black clutch, just big enough for lipstick and my phone! I also need to add that if my mom reads this she will not like my hair. At. All. I’m sorry mom, if I was actually going to a wedding it would look better (promise!).

Shop the post:

Now let’s see what all the other ladies are wearing, shall we?

Kellyann: “This time of year I am reaching for something with a little glamour yet comfortable.  This faux wrap dress in black is a classic piece but by adding a fun statement necklace and my short leopard coat I’ve added a little glamour.”

Kristin:  “Would you guess that two of the items in my winter wedding look are secondhand? This black and white printed dress and coat are both thrifted! I’m talking about where I thrift in my post as well as my aversion to tights… I don’t care how cold it is, if I have the choice I’ll take my chances with bare legs!”

Whitney: “I’m not actually attending any weddings this season.  If I were, I probably would have wanted to buy a pretty, new holiday dress.  But instead, this post was a good exercise in wardrobe remixing!”

Chrissy: “When I think “Christmas wedding” I think silvers, blacks, reds etc, but I couldn’t resist going with this deep burgundy, ruffle top and floral skirt. These colors are everywhere right now!”

Ada: “A little black dress in velvet is the perfect dress to wear for a December Wedding since it is the Holiday season. Velvet is the IT Material of the season – so rich, elegant, dressy and beautiful. I love that this dress is in a midi length which makes it Wintery and for a pop of color I chose a coral python clutch, blush velvet pumps with a blush pink lace choker and red lipstick. I’d also wear this elegant floral kimono jacket over the dress to keep myself warm and layers are a must for a Winter Wedding or Holiday Party.”

Monica: “I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season before.  As always, thanks Ada for the fun collab!  Today I’ve decided that for a holiday wedding I want to be comfortable and wear pants.  I paired the pants with a fun pearl top.”

Linda: “Going for a Winter Wedding on New Years Look: Heels to start off for the  more traditional look and of course a great pair of chucks for dancing into the night. I do have a shawl I will wear to cover my shoulders but heck, how fun is this amazing sequin dress from Charlotte Russe paired with J Crew Pumps or black converse.”

Jennie – “A black jumpsuit is an elegant look perfect for weddings, especially in winter when you also want to stay warm. Topping it off with a bit of sparkle makes it perfectly festive for the season!”

Christine: “What I love most about this silver metallic pleated skirt is the fit and how flowy it is. This is such an elegant and chic outfit to wear to a Holiday Winter Wedding. Simply dress it up with a black satin camisole, fishnet tights, classic black pumps and layer your favorite winter coat et voila!”

Shelbee: “For my winter wedding outfit, I went for more of a dressy casual look with layered little black dresses: a button front shirt dress over a body con dress.  I kept my accessories simple with a gold link floral necklace and a black clutch. Then I let my bright pink heeled loafers be the statement.  My feeling is you can never go wrong with a little black dress and some fabulous shoes for just about any occasion!”

Thanks so much my darling friend! I hadn’t really planned on wearing the jacket but then a cold front came through. I was so glad to pull it out – I had thought of getting rid of it last year because I hardly wear it but I love a little leopard!
      You’re so sweet!

Thanks Laura! I am hoping it gets cool enough to wear the coat this year, I’ve had it several years and sometimes it just sits in my closet. I can’t bear to part with it.

You look like a million bucks. I gather given the number of bloggers who are wearing black the old rule about that is gone. I for one am glad since most of my wardrobe is black or grey.

Thanks Annie! I say rules, schmools. I was thinking more glam for a wedding but I guess it depends on the time of day. Lately anyway it seems less about rules and just doing what feels good! You can never go wrong with having a fair amount of black in your closet – works for everything!
Hope you’re having a fabulous week!

VA-VA-VOOM!!!! If I could whistle on here (or at all) you’d better believe I’d be doing it. You look GOR-JUS!!!! You know how to accessorize a LBD and take it to a whole other level. Okay, the comment to your mom about your hair totally cracked me up, because I could see me doing the same thing. I’m always thinking in my head, “what’s mom going to say/think about this”😉🙄😂) Fasten your seatbelt lady because our kids are speeding down the road toward the altar. Happy Wednesday Ms. Hottie. Did you make it home with your boy? I’ve got one exhausted girl tucked in upstairs. ❤️ Love ya!!!!

Oh man, you’re making me blush! I felt a little like Fran Drescher from The Nanny! Hahahaha, Peg Bundy Monday, Fran Drescher Wednesday! I haven’t been to a wedding in ages so I was really stumped but it was nice to pull out some old favorites.
I brought Nolan home last night and we are so happy to have him here. It was a long, exhausting day but totally worth it! Can’t wait to see what you and KT are up to!
You are the best my friend and I’m lucky to know you!

I love that you and I chose classic-style beautiful Little Black Dresses for this particular event. Is yours velvet too?! What a steal. I love it with the leopard fur and how incredible is your necklace. I was dying over it when I saw the pics. Where is that stunning pearl necklace from?!

I am so glad you are a part of this collab my friend. I think you will like my post today and on yesterday’s post I showed a version of what a little girl or toddler girl could wear to a Holiday Wedding so go check them out! Ohhh I cannot wait to see the final two outfits you style for The Holiday Series!! I will e-mail you soon!

Ada, I have you to thank for so much! I never really understood all the link up stuff, I still have so much to learn.
My necklace is from Macy’s, it’s old but from the Betsey Johnson line. It’s definitely a statement maker. My dress isn;t velvet, too bad because that would be awesome! I just got home from work and I am getting ready to read all the blogs. This collaboration has been such a terrific idea, everyone is so unique. You are such a creative soul my friend!

Kellyann, you look fabulous in this LBD and boots! But your coat is spectacular! I am drooling a little bit over here! I need a magnificent leopard coat…going hunting now online for one!… By the way, I think your hair looks gorgeous this way! Very elegant for a wedding. Another super fun collaboration with so many amazing bloggers.

Thanks so much Shelbee. I almost got rid of that jacket because I hardly wear it but I keep holding onto it because I love it! I appreciate your kind comments, I was in a rush to get these pictures done and threw my hair up. It pleases me to hear you say it looks elegant because I know my mom won’t like it, lol!

Well, look who’s Lady Leoprint now! Sophisticatedly dressed in classical lines and cocooning herself in edgy furriness. Love it all, the jacket has a great cut and must be exciting to wear for those days Floridian temperatures dip below 80f. Jewellery, boots, hair, all gorgeous. Overall look, Wowzers!! Perfect for a winter wedding.
For one I attended 12 years I wore a long ruffle skirted suit in rich red embroidered velvet. Still got it.
Red. Velvet. Embroidery. Longer line. Ruffles. All trending in AW17. Who’s the lucky hoarder to still have this in her wardrobe?!!
Hugs to Lady Leoprint II !! Xx

Well now I’ve discovered something you have in common with my husband – he’s a hoarder of his clothes and swears that if you keep it long enough it’ll be back in style! Ha! Your red skirt suit sounds amazing, you MUST take it out and wear it.
I’ll be Lady Leoprint anytime right there with ya my friend. My sweet jacket just doesn’t get out much, I almost got rid of it – can you believe that! It would have been a tragic mistake for sure.
Here’s hoping you and TP are having a great week filled with lots of holiday cheer!

Well after I commented I got the 3-piece out of its zipper bag (photos to come) and realised that the skirt with black polo neck and knee boots makes a cute relaxed Christmas outfit. So thanks for your inspo. And yes, I’m with your hubby on the hoarding approach to fashion!
BTW I think your leoprint would look super cool with jeans and ankle boots. X.

Oh Mary, you are BRILLIANT! Yes, I need to do that – jeans and ankle boots with my leoprint! How did bossy me not think of that already?
I am not telling my husband you are with him in the clothes hoarding dept. because that will backfire for sure! The next time I tell him an article of clothing expired he’ll say, “but Mary said…” No thanks!
I can’t wait to see your suit, I’m glad you pulled it out!
Cheers to the weekend my friend!

I think the next round of weddings for us will be when our kids and our friends kids start getting married – hopefully about 6-7 years from now!
I love the leopard coat so much but rarely get to wear it because it’s just too warm. Then it’s freezing (in my Floridian mind) and the jacket isn’t warm enough, lol. I am going to make a real effort to wear it more this year.
      Thanks Carrie!
