Friday Favorites #1

The fact that I have titled this post Friday Favorites #1 implies I plan on doing this more than once, I’m hoping I can do this each week this year but sometimes I just draw a blank. In any case, I have five favorites to share with you today that I hope you’ll like!

#1 My Pillow! I bought this Christmas gift for myself and I am so glad I did! Here’s why I shop for my own presents: last year I mentioned/told my husband that I wanted this pillow after seeing it on TV. Did I get it? Um, no. This year I did because I am a way better Santa!
Here’s why I love it – the neck and shoulder pain I had been experiencing has vanished. I’m not even kidding. This thing works. In fact I told my bestie Lorie about it, made her get one (because I’m bossy), and she loves it too! It comes with a 10 year warranty and a 60 night money back guarantee. You have to try it!

#2 The best gift ever!
Here’s a picture of the very best gift I have ever received as a school counselor!

I couldn’t find the exact product online, mine is a trinket tray but this sentiment block would have the very same impact. If you need a teacher gift for the end of the year, get this!
So you probably know I am leaving my position as elementary school counselor at my neighborhood school to work as an elementary school counselor for Florida Virtual School. In fact I begin training on Tuesday. When I tell you leaving is hard I am not even joking. The majority of the time, when I’m in my true role as a school counselor I have the best job in the world. In the last few years, this one in particular, I’ve come across my share of mean and angry parents. Conversations that have left me sleepless and completely unappreciated. I received a gift from the parent of a little girl in kindergarten this year. She was having a hard time adjusting to school and cried every morning. Long story short once she and I got together we turned that around almost immediately. Her mother was so grateful and I am so happy to say my new friend walks in each morning with her head held high like she owns the place! I LOVE it, sometimes you just need to know someone’s there for you, in your corner, believing and supporting you. That’s all I did for this young lady. Her sweet mother sent me a card and chocolate earlier this school year as a thank you and then for Christmas she presented me with this gift that honestly means so much to me. I don’t do my job for the accolades and I certainly don’t do it for the money – like most educators I do it because I have a heart for children.

#3 New make up! One of the reasons I love buying cosmetics online is the free samples that get included with your purchase. Somehow I ended up with a sample of this make up. I couldn’t believe how much I liked it! It goes on so smoothly and the coverage is perfect! For reference I have oily skin and large pores along with my fair share of age spots so I prefer a full coverage foundation. I am obsessed with this!

#4 Reading! At the start of the holiday break I had all kinds of plans to get things done. My mistake was not writing them down because when I have a list I get it done, no list means lots of relaxing. In the process I read 4 books on my Kindle Fire. I read The Marriage Lie: A bestselling psychological thriller by Kimberly Belle, The Girl Before: A Novel by JP Delaney,The Mistake by K.L. Slater, and Liar by K.L. Slater. Seems a bit of a theme in my reading, eh? Yeah, I like mystery, suspense, psychological thrillers!

#5 Cold weather and fires! Nothing says cozy to me like warming up by a fire and if I have a good book to enjoy it’s like the icing on the cake. That being said I have absolutely loved these last few days and the cold snap we’ve had. Call me crazy but since we spend the majority of the year burning up the cold weather is a welcome change.

So there you have it, first Friday Favorites of 2018. Since I have absolutely no idea how my new job will impact my blogging my hope is to post at least 3 times a week. Since I’ll be working from home I plan to write a few posts on what to wear as you work from home to avoid falling into a frumpville!

Make this a great weekend! While I intend to I’ll also be sad as we return our son Nolan to Gainesville as he begins the second half of his sophomore year. He’s an industrial engineering major and when I looked at his course schedule I almost died – dang, it looks hard!

Thanks for stopping by friends!

XO,
Kellyann

Thanks my dear friend! I’m enjoying all the coziness while I can – our regular weather is predicted for next week which means no fires and almost 80 degrees – ugh!!!! Nolan is going back Sunday, I hate when they leave -I’ll be sending you all the love and good thoughts this weekend. Such a bummer when the holidays are over.
Hope you have a glorious weekend filled with lots of coffee and Bailey’s! Yum!
      Love ya!

Oh Anna, I usually do the very same thing at this time of year. I always enjoy a good Christmas novel but my heart lies in the deep, dark psychological thriller side – ha! Once I started my Kindle kept suggesting more and I kept buying, ugh, it’s so easy to do. I honestly need to step away from reading for a bit to get some things done. We’ll have to share titles since we have the same taste!

I need a new foundation, so I may need to try this. Although I have dry skin (Denver is an arid state), so I wonder if it’ll be as good on my skin?
    Have a great weekend!!

They make another formula that would probably be better suited to dry skin in a dry climate. Definitely check it out. Let me know how it works for you, I am an oil pit in a humid climate – my face is never dry, lol!

Apologies for butting in here but I have been using Chanel Vitalumiere (not the aqua one) for a few years and it’s perfect. I guess I have normal skin type and I think it would work a treat with Jodie’s dry skin.

Oh, thanks Mary! Glad to hear your feedback. It really does seem to be perfect make up!
          But in anytime my friend!

      Happy New Year Laura!!!

I have not heard of or read any of those books you mentioned! Are you on Goodreads? I love that site for organizing what I’ve read, want to read, etc. and a lot of bloggers are on there and I can see what they are reading. Being a counselor I am sure is a challenging yet rewarding job! I am excited for your new position and it is neat how there are so many jobs where you can work from home ‘virtually’! I am kind of thinking about getting that pillow for my hubby for his bday (and maybe one for me). Does it fit regular pillow cases? I guess it would!! I usually sleep with two pillows, I guess I’d put it on top? LOL!

The pillow comes in standard or king – I bought the standard because I have a silk pillow case I wanted to use. I think I am going to get one for my husband’s birthday in February. His pillow is so old and he keeps saying how much he likes it but most of the time it ends up on the floor and he sleeps without it – that doesn’t sound very convincing – ha!
I have a Goodreads account but I’ve never used it – I just kept following what my Kindle recommended and liked each one. I should get on Goodreads and get organized!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend, I’ll share all about the new job next week! Yikes!!!

I love to read but can’t read thrillers. They give me nightmares for days! As a child the Wizard of Oz traumatized me for weeks. I am such a weeny! Sounds like you had a nice holiday!
    Peace!

Her Royal Bossiness is building up quite the track record, Lorie and the pillow, me and the faux leather jeggings …
I’m sure you’re feeling torn being in a between place, jobwise, but you’ll soon be feeling the satisfaction of successes again in your new job.
Saw some home footage of snow in Tallahassee today! I bet that woolly hat hasn’t come off yet!
Keep warm (never I thought I’d be wishing you that!), x.

Oh Mary, you know I am just the bossiest friend you’ll find but of course it’s only for your own good. Sweet Lorie has been putting up with me for years and she spends an hour with me every weekday morning! That poor woman!
Ugh, the job…I am looking forward to settling in and seeing what the new gig is all about. I tend to be a “Bloom Where I’m Planted” kind of gal but this is sooooo different. Can’t wait to share the experience with you!
Warmed up a bit today – 35 at 9:30 but by noon it was 50 and in the car with sun beating down I actually had to put the a/c on. Winter in Florida is interesting!

What a fun series! I love it! I have seen that pillow everywhere and wondered if it really was good. I will definitely have to try it out. You seriously cannot beat Chanel makeup, it’s the best.

YAY for Friday Favorites #1. I wish I’d started numbering mine in the very beginning. You had a great list. I know that trinket tray is a treasure (say that 5 times fast…lol) Those little kids are sure going to miss Mrs. Rohr, but you will now be a blessing to a new set of kids and people. You’d get along well with my mom. She likes the same type of books. I’m so happy you are having a cool snap and getting to enjoy a mini-winter. You’ve about convinced me I need one of those pillows. I like a feather(ish) pillow, so I’m just not sure how I’d like it. I’ll let it perk for a while and then decide. I love that you think your “bossy”. That’s just another thing we have in common, but we’re bossy in a good way. Enjoy your day with sweet Nolan before he returns to school. Look at it this way…he’s in the same time zone. Not TWO away😘 (oh woe is me😂) Love ya! XO Thanks for the fashion advice when I messaged you yesterday…it’s been returned. KT was thrilled you agreed with her😉

Well I’m glad KT was happy I agreed with her, you’re too cute to wear something so baggy and shapeless! Thanks for lifting me up with encouraging words once again – I have to remind myself about the new set of kids and I am praying it all works out! I tell ya what – I’ll be happy when this week is over and I can reflect on it, I’m sure it will be interesting.
You’ll have to let me know if your mom reads any good books – I got another on my Kindle today although I’m not sure when I’m going to have time to read it this week!
Yay for bossy but in a good way kind of friends, I think we provide a necessary service.
I had to start numbering the Friday Favorites because I’m not creative enough to come up with a new name each week – ha! I do need to develop a cute graphic though. That’s another thing I could have done over the break but I chose to read instead, lol.
Hope you’re enjoying your weekend, I know you miss KT already but she’s probably so excited to see her cute boyfriend again, that has to make you happy! Nolan has decided after the last one he’s swearing off relationships for awhile – good idea!!!
      Love you friend!

I finally read a book over the weekend for the first time since September…yes September!!
It felt amazing and I already started another. I finally bought a kindle paperwhite and I really think I’m going to love it so much more than reading on my ipad.

Good for you Shelly! I really prefer an actual book to anything electronic but I do what I have to and it’s so easy to buy books on the kindle!
