We are finally entering the time of year where cold fronts are common and our temps here in Florida actually dip below 70 degrees. I’m happy when it’s below 80 but become ecstatic when it gets even colder! Sounds crazy I’m sure but I happen to think dressing in layers is not only smart but visually interesting too.
When it gets cold outside it’s often very warm and cozy on the inside because heaters are blasting. So, how do you stay comfortable transitioning from inside to outside? My job calls for me to be in both places so it’s essential that I think it through and dress for the two extremes in order to stay comfortable.
I refuse to sacrifice style for function; why can’t we have both? Well friends, we can, we can. Since I have no interest in a big, pufffy coat I rely on my faux leather moto jacket (similar, plus size option). It’s thick enough to keep me warm when layered properly and certainly adds style!
When I am outside I’ll add a scarf (similar)to keep warm. It’s amazing how much warmth a simple scarf can add. Not only functional but fashionable – a great way to accessorize!
My very favorite skinny jeans (plus size option) in this dark wash work so well with my new plaid shirt and hot pink sweater. When I’m inside I’ll be warm but not too warm since these layers are lightweight.
When I head outside I’ll add my leopard infinity scarf and my moto jacket (similar, plus size option). I love these two pieces because they really complete my outfit without covering it up, ya know? I can’t stand it when it’s so cold outside that you have to hide your terrific outfit underneath a giant coat! Don’t get me wrong I completely understand that sometimes that’s necessary for instance if there’s a snow storm. However, living in Florida I won’t have to worry about that!
It was actually very cool and dreary on Saturday when we shot these pictures. The wind was blowing too giving me Peg Bundy hair! Hahaha, do you remember Married With Children? I promise I don’t tease my hair!
These booties from Toms are terrific. I am always looking for a shoe with a cushioned foot bed and these deliver! They’re comfortable enough to wear all day and they’re on sale! I wear
these no show socks with my booties.
So how do you dress for extreme temperatures? It may be freezing outside but then you head indoors and it’s so toasty warm you need to strip down. I say the key to being stylish in this situation is by wearing lightweight layers without ignoring colors, patterns, and textures to add visual interest. It makes dressing this time of year one of my favorites because there are so many elements to consider it never gets boring.
