Common Threads Challenge

Oh friends, what a week. I am heartbroken about the situation in Las Vegas and I feel so deeply for all of the families and friends who lost loved ones. I pray for the entire city as I know all too well what’s it’s like when terror comes to town.  It saddens me that we live in a world where people going out to enjoy a night of fun never return home and that our children are almost immune to this type of violence.  We live in such a broken world that every chance we have to lighten the mood and feel alive we have to take.  Regardless of your faith or beliefs I hope you’ll join me in sending love and prayers to everyone in Las Vegas.   I hope too that some good will come from all of this; maybe a new appreciation for first responders will ignite and we can stop all the foolish bickering.  Can we come together in our grief?I certainly hope so.

Today is day 3 of the Common Threads Challenge . You can get more information about it here from the fabulous Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood. From what I understand this challenge is her brain child. I’m just tagging along and enjoying the ride!

I kicked off Monday with this look:

Everyone at work loved my gingham top. I’m glad they did since they’ll be seeing a lot of it this month! I wore an old pair of burgundy jeans from Loft along with a new necklace and my favorite open toe booties (similar and on sale). I have to say I really loved how this outfit turned out and it reinforced my love for the top!

Tuesday I wore this new top. I paired it with black, cropped pants purchased last Fall from Loft. I wore my comfortable wedges. I love that the top combines a couple of trends all into one adorable piece. The stripes, the short bell sleeves, and the embroidery detail are all trending for Fall.

Today I am wearing my cargo vest (similar) along with my step hem jeans (similar on sale) and my booties (on sale). I have a district meeting downtown and it’s often cold in the meeting room so I am wearing a plaid shirt with my vest.

I am anxious to see how this all plays out as far as the challenge goes. I may have made a few mistakes with the 2 tops I chose because they are both statement tops. You know, the kind of tops that have details people remember. Wearing them each week may prove to be a little much. The last thing anyone wants is for co-workers to say,”Oh, hey, I love that you’re wearing that top again this week!

Did you take advantage of the 50% off sale and free shipping on all orders at Loft?I hope so, what a great sale! I hope you’ll be inspired by today’s post and maybe you’ll join along with the Common Threads Challenge. Remember I’ll be posting a selfie every morning before work on Instagram and I’d love to have you follow me there.

I wish you all a very peaceful Wednesday. If your hearts are heavy with burden or sadness I hope you find a way to lighten your load and feel loved. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for stopping by my blog today,it means so much to me!

Kellyann

  1. LOVE your selections, I still cannot get enough of that gingham top and the vest is perfect!! Too funny about thinking your co-workers may notice you’re wearing “that” top again….so something I would think about. LOVE ya beautiful!!

    1. Thanks Andrea! Yes, you and I are so much alike. I totally know everyone is going to be talking about me wearing the same clothes over and over again because I NEVER do! It’s going to be interesting for sure!
You are the sweetest, thanks beautiful friend!

  2. All so precious Kellyann! That gingham top looks precious on you! And I have the exact pieces to create your look in the last outfit….I always forget it’s one of my favorites. So, so cute!

    1. I think everyone can recreate that last outfit – all oldies but goodies, lol! Wearing it today made me feel like it was Fall for sure!

  3. What a beautifully well written post. It makes me so sad at the state of our nation. You really said it well when you said that we live in a broken nation.
I just love all of these looks, especially the last one with the cargo vest. You are looking fabulous!

    1. Thanks Blaire. It makes me sad to think my kids have no idea what going to the airport was like BEFORE 911 – I have fond memories of walking my grandmother all the way to the gate when she was returning home from visiting us. Now it’s commonplace to plan your traveling outfit around going through the TSA lines! Pretty soon we will be going through metal detectors and having our bags searched everywhere we go.
Glad you liked my cargo vest look! It was actually cool enough today – thanks to the rain – for me to wear it without sweating! Yay!

  4. I just love today’s outfit! I need to find a pair of these step hem jeans. I actually need to buy a few new pairs of denim this fall, some of mine are just getting worn!! I pinned your outfit from today, too… I have the vest and top… I do need a pair of adorable peep toe boots like those. I didn’t know Ada got this challenge together, yay for her!

    1. Thanks Carrie! I guess I got it wrong, I read Ada’s blog today and she said someone else put it together, oops! Oh well. I got these step hem jeans for a STEAL at WHBM. They were on super sale and I had a birthday reward so I paid $10 for them! I am loving Old Navy lately for denim. Their super skinny jeans are the best!

    1. Thanks Denise! Yes, the first look is my favorite too – I just can’t get enough of that gingham top. Of course by the end of October I’ll probably be sick of it, lol!

    1. Hahaha, I’m guessing it may not be my co-workers who actually say what they’re thinking but the students at school certainly will! I swear they notice everything – they talk to me all the time about my make up, nail polish, hair – nothing is off limits with these kids! While I like the tops now I’m hoping I am not sick of them by the end of the month!

  5. Hi sweet lady, what you wrote is so beautiful and my thoughts exactly since you know I wrote a similar post. Thank you for liking my poetry. It is so sad and tragic what happened.

While I come up with a ton of fashion challenges every season, I cannot take credit for this one. Alex from The Cheerful Closet is actually the one that created it. I loved participating though. Did you check my post today to see my 5 picks? From what I can see we both chose similar perforated booties and similar step-hem jeans. Great minds think alike. Oh and all my pieces are either from Loft or Nordstrom lol. I recognized your pretty Loft tops by the way. You know I love that store. The 3rd outfit is my favorite though I also love the 1st. =)

  6. Oh how cute you look every single day!!! I can’t wait to watch you incorporate these pieces over the next 30 days. I’ve got to get something with embroidery. I’m thinking a pair of jeans if I can find some on the cheap. Hope you are having a wonderful week!!! XOXO

    1. You’re so sweet girl that’s why you’re my friend! Old Navy has some cute embroidered jeans, I was there last weekend but they didn’t have my size – they run big but they’re super cute and always on sale. We’ll have to get matching jeans, hahahaha!!! Am I back in junior high? I hope you are having a fabulous time and getting ready for that big, ole birthday!!!!

  7. While your statement tops may be harder to style differently, it will be great inspiration! We all have those statement tops we often only wear one way. I can’t wait to see more of how you wear them! I am loving those step hem jeans too! I can’t wait to get a pair for myself!

    1. Thanks Laura! I’ve never done a challenge before and while my first instinct was to choose a pair of shoes as part of my 5 pieces that felt too easy. I think I have some good things planned but I kinda feel like I’m on a diet, ya know, restricted in some ways. I can’t just go to my closet and grab whatever I want! Seems silly but it’s true. Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
