Ageless Style Link Up

Happy January 2 friends! I am thrilled to announce that I have been invited to join the fabulous ladies of the Ageless Style Link Up! Each month the 10 of us come together to share a theme with you and show you how regardless of age we can wear ANYTHING! This month’s theme is retro style – something that had been trendy once and has now resurfaced. We are also adding a new feature – a monthly co-host!  So much excitement and I am honored and humbled to participate!

So in true Kellyann style I racked my brain trying to come up with something fabulous, this being my first go round with the Ageless Style ladies. In the midst of all my fretting I turned to Pinterest and my 70’s inspired clothing board for inspiration. That’s when I realized my love of flare jeans (save, splurge, splurge) fit the bill perfectly. Paired with a pussy bow blouse, long cardigan, and platform wedge sandals I’d say I’ve channeled my inner 70’s loving side quite well!

I’ll let you in on a little secret – I absolutely LOVE flare jeans and if I wasn’t so clumsy my flares would be much wider. Unfortunately this is all the flare I can handle. When I’m walking my feet get all caught up and while I haven’t actually fallen I have come very close. Am I the only one with this problem?
I’m not entirely sure you can classify my blouse as a legitimate pussy bow blouse but I think you get the idea. According to Wikipedia a pussy bow blouse is one that ties at the neck similar to what a tie around a kitten’s neck would look like. The print may make it hard to tell in these photos but I did tie my blouse and I like it although I think it would be uncomfortable on an actual feline friend! (similar, another option, another option)
Born in 1968 (yes I am turning 50 this year!) I was in grade school during the 70’s. I remember well long cardigans that were belted back then. I always loved them and still do minus the belt of course (save, splurge).
Do you have a favorite retro style or article of clothing you like to wear? Please check out what other ladies are sharing along with our co-host this month Samantha Blair from the blog Fake Fabulous. She’s sharing a beautiful coat from 1958 yet it looks completely modern and stylish! How’s that for throwback genius? I am loving her coat and wish I lived in a cooler climate where I actually needed one!
If you are someone with a love of vintage clothing you definitely need to follow Samantha. You can check her out on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter.
Now it’s time to check out what everyone else is wearing and add your own link at the bottom!

Thanks Anna! Yes, if the belted cardigans make a comeback I’ll pass – my waist is too thick now. It was fun to realize pieces I’ve owned for a while fit the bill for my 70s inspired look. I am excited to be part of the group and can’t wait to see what else 2018 holds in store. Happy New Year Anna!

Thanks for the welcome Deb! I have the same problem with maxi skirts and dresses, I am constantly stumbling and it’s a miracle I haven’t fallen. It’s also a good thing there are no hidden cameras catching me and my stumbles! I’m assuming you are still enjoying break from school – hope you’re enjoying it. We are having freezing weather this week and they say we may even get some snow flurries – I am pumped!!!

Thanks so much Rosemary, I really appreciate it! My husband always says if you keep something long enough it comes back in style. Of course he says that as a way to keep me from shopping, silly man. Happy 2018 to you, I hope you had a wonderful NYE!

Happy, Happy, Happy New Year Kellyann!!!! Congratulations on being invited to join the Ageless Style Link Up! What an honor sweet friend. You look perfectly 70’s. You didn’t even mention your shoes, which absolutely scream 70’s. I remember in Kg my best friend had a little girl pair. I wanted some soooo badly. Unfortunately for me (and fortunately for my mom…she was not a fan) my sweet little feet were just too narrow to wear fun shoes. When you first mention your “pussy” blouse, I thought it was a typo…LOL. I had no idea they were called that. 😜 That style would look awful on me. I need a V-neck or scoop neck to look best with the shape of my face. You however look darling. I should really get out some of my bootcut jeans (that’s as flare as I’ve gone), but I have the hardest time switching gears with styles. #notgreatforfashionbloggers Have a wonderful day. 2018 is going to be a great year for you!!! (what date is your bday?)🙃 XOXO

Thanks so much my friend and happy new year! I have been so out of the loop lately I can’t believe I left out those dang shoes because I chose them specifically for their 70’s vibe! Oy vey, the story of my life! Joining this wonderful group is such an honor for me, I am pumped! Oh but back to the shoes. My sister (5 years older) had some like this I remember very well. I think I was probably too young to wear them and would have broken an ankle but I always admired them. Heck, I never even had a pair of those Dr. Scholl’s shoes that everyone had.
So the pussy bow blouse – I never wear my blouses tied because I need a v-neck too but this one didn’t look too bad and definitely worked for the theme. I didn’t know the correct name either till I read about it on someone else’s blog a few years ago, lol. Crazy name, right?!
Hope you have the very best day my friend – oh, yeah, 50 is coming for me on June 3! Just about 5 months!

I’ve been loving my flares lately too, Kellyann!! Maybe because they are different than the usual skinnies, but it’s good to have variety!!

Thanks for the warm welcome Jodie! Yeah, it’s nice to have something in between a skinny and a boyfriend – flares for the win! I think they have a subtle sex appeal as well. It’s nice to have options because good heavens what would we do if we were ever bored?! Lol, cheers to a year of good fashion and new friends!

Lovely 70s vibe, Mrs R, yet wearable in the teensies. Your legs really suit a bell-bottom – OK, that was their name in the 60s, I go even further back! I don’t have the legs for flares now . You were so right to choose those platforms, you’ve hit the vibe perfectly. Oh and BTW, I had some post today and TP homed in on it as soon as he entered the house! Thanks, so lovely. Hugs, x.

Yay Mary, I wondered if my card would ever arrive! I think I wrote the wrong last name and I apologize! I’ll egt it right for next time my friend. Sorry it took so long to get there. No excuses just laziness on my part. I am hoping to get back in action this week before going back to work next week and starting my new job right after wrapping up the old one – yikes!!!
Hope you’re having a marvelous Monday my friend!

Kellyann, I adore this 70’s inspired look on you! I do love a good vintage inspired outfit myself. While I do like the 70’s boho vibes, I think my favorite flashback era in clothing is 40s and 50s! And you are not alone with tripping over your own pants! I have done it all too many times…except I actually fall! I remember years ago, I met up with a guy for a lunch date of sorts. He wanted me to help him pick out a shirt after lunch so we went into Banana Republic down at the piers in NYC. We were browsing through separate racks and next thing I know, the heel of my shoe caught in the cuff of my wide length suit trousers and I ended up on my back with a rack of clothes on top of me in the middle of Banana Republic! He turned and saw me lying there and he was mortified! I, on the other, was cracking up because it was typical Shelbee. And, hey, if you can’t handle that, then you can’t date me! There never was a second date with that guy! Hahahahahahaha.

The lesson, don’t wear stiletto heels with wide leg pants!

Bwahahahahahahahaha!!! I love that story Shelbee and that is exactly what would happen to me. I had to stop wearing dress pants that had cuffs because I kept catching my heel in them. Good thing you had an opportunity to weed that guy out, you’re right if you can’t handle a situation without being mortified then move along!
I love the 40’s and 50’s too. In fact, I was considering hunting down a great outfit from the 40’s at consignment and vintage shops but I procrastinated and ended up shopping my closet. I love the cuts of clothing from those eras – all the ladylike shapes and details make my heart swoon.
Here’s to a wonderful 2018 filled with lots of fun fashion and few falls!

Oh Shelbee I hope you don’t fall and if you do you don’t get hurt. That is my fear, I’m going to break something! Since I am so clumsy sans snow and ice it’s probably a very good thing I live in Florida. I can hardly imagine what would happen to me in your weather, yikes!!!
          Take care!!

I would have had a hard time coming up with something for this months theme, but your flares nailed it! I love the amount of flares on your jeans, I don’t think I’d go any wider if it were ME… but, I love how you said you would if you weren’t clumsy! Ha! The tie on that blouse is so pretty!

Thanks Carrie! All the times I’ve worn this blouse in the past I left the tie undone but in the 70’s they tied their blouses so I did too and I actually really like it, go figure! I love flares but yes my clumsy walking would result in a break or sprain so I have to say no to true bell bottoms! Actually I have the same problem with cuffs on dress pants too, I had to stop buying pants with cuffs because of it, lol!

Kellyann – welcome to the Ageless Style Linkup! You look amazing in these flares! I, too, was born in 1968 and I’m a huge fan of 1970s fashion. I remember the belted cardis and the bows on the blouses. I think my mom may still have some of the things she used to wear in storage. I really should get my hands on them! Best wishes for a wonderful 2018!

So you’re hitting the big 5-0 this year too, huh? Can you believe it, it sounds so grown up to me, lol. I’ll be wearing jeans a lot more this year because I’m going to be working from home. That has me pretty excited to be honest. I used to wear dress pants and skirts so much but as I’ve aged my feet couldn’t handle the shoes I used to wear – just like 5 years ago even. Crazy, but that put such a damper on getting dressed. Jeans give me a little more flexibility with comfortable shoes that are still stylish so I am hopeful and happy about that. I enjoy reading about the shoes you choose because I know you have to be careful as well. It’s so helpful to read your blog!

So glad to have you join our group, sweet friend! I love that we both chose to style flares for this month’s theme. 🙂 I have styled my flares with bow blouses a few times and just love the retro vibe it gives. I need to try adding a long cardigan sometime, too. My birth year is ’69, so I am not far behind you, girl!

The warm weather is overrated when it’s warm and hot all the time. I’m always envious of everyone in the cooler weather, the humidity here is no joke and it’s hard to embrace the holidays when it’s near 90 degrees, lol. I guess we all want what we don’t have.

Usually when I wear this blouse I leave it untied because it seems to uptight all tied up. I figured I try to make it more 70’s by keeping it tied and I ended up really liking it. The flares are fun for a change. Thanks for the compliments!
