Another Pink Top

Another day, another pink top.  I swear I have been on a buy all the pink tops kick lately!  That and being bossed around by the kindergarten girls. You know how I shared their displeasure over my unpainted nails last week?  Well, I had every intention of rectifying that situation over the weekend.  Then I found out that biggest you-should-be-ashamed-your-nails-aren’t-painted whistle blower was going on vacation all this week and I changed my mind!  I plan on getting gel nails but I’ll do it this weekend so when I see her next Tuesday I’ll pass inspection.  Yes, that’s what my life has been reduced to – pleasing 5 year olds!  The worst part? My principal was one who told me she’d be out of town and suggested I wait to do my nails.  Apparently we’re all at their mercy.

I’ve been visiting the kindergarten classes to do a short lesson on what a school counselor does.  Kind of a waste of time because after spending a good 25 minutes explaining my job all they really think I do is work in the cafeteria since I have lunch duty when they’re in there.  It’s almost comical, you should see the great lesson I have yet they are adamant I am the lunch lady!  But since I have lunch duty with our principal and assistant principal too I guess that makes us all lunch helpers!  Good thing I went to graduate school.

Let’s get back to my fun top.  It’s no secret I get a lot of love from these kiddos because they love my clothes.  I bought this top a few weeks ago from the online retailer Shein. I love the color, the criss cross and ruffle sleeves. It’s not just a basic, boring, short sleeve pink blouse – it has personality! Here I am wearing it with a pencil skirt from Target.

This look has work outfit written all over it and I am just fine with that! This colorful skirt is old but has so many great colors. In the past I’ve worn it with blue and even a chambray top. It has a very small hot pink stripe near the bottom. Look how excited I am!
I love that I can wear my favorite wedges with this look because they’re so comfortable! Even after having them on all day they feel good!
My top is no longer available at Shein but check out this one. I think it would be great for Fall! It would be perfect with jeans, and a kimono or field jacket. Add some peep toe booties and you are set! This one has long sleeves for $13! I’m telling you Shein is really worth your while to check out. You can’t beat the prices and I swear as long as you read the reviews regarding sizing you’ll be happy with your order. They do offer easy returns just in case.

Enjoy your Wednesday, the long weekend is in sight!  Are you planning to take advantage of end of Summer sales?  It’s a great time to get your shop on! Speaking of getting your shop on, Accessory Concierge my very favorite online accessory boutique is offering 25% off your entire order. Use the code ABC123 to save 25% off sitewide! So many of my favorite accessories come from Accessory Concierge!

Nordstrom Haul

Hello and happy Monday!  Although it’s been a little while since I shopped anywhere in person, I am always stalking stores on the internet.  You can decide if my post is accurately titled, I’ve purchased 4 items recently from Nordstrom.  Does that make it a haul?  Who knows?  But everything is on sale so rather than wait to feature each item in separate outfit post I put them together.  Now you can have a chance to snag them too – before they’re gone! And just like that my good deed for Monday is done, lol!

First up, this dress, it’s on sale for $41.40, down from $69. It is off the shoulder, comes in black, navy, denim, and faded denim. I bought it in black in a size small. The reviews said to order a size down, I probably could have worn an XS because it has plenty of room but I didn’t want it to be too short. Plus now I have room for appetizers, dessert, and cocktails. So there! The real reason I bought it is because I am planning to wear it to my son’s graduation in May. I know, I know, thinking way ahead. But I really liked seeing it this year on so many other bloggers and when it went on sale I knew it was meant to be!  The fabric of this dress is such good quality. It is thick and sturdy.  As I look at these pictures I realize how short it is!  This may be a dress I wear with flats, not entirely sure yet. You can get my necklace here and my very favorite pom pom clutch here.

The second item I purchased is this faux wrap blouse . This baby is half off! It had been $68 and is now $34! It comes in 5 colors/patterns. I chose red because my wardrobe is lacking red but I really like some of the prints it comes in as well. This is a fabulous top! It has a little snap sewn in so you’ll never feel exposed and the faux wrap hides any problem areas. It is also a little longer in the back, overall just a fantastic top to wear with everything! It would be perfect at work and also for play. Snag this top! For reference I bought a medium.  Sorry these pictures are a little hazy.  It’s been raining all weekend and it is so humid!  The lens on my camera fogged up immediately and we had to wait for it to adjust.  I even had to take my glasses off because they were so fogged up – crazy humidity and unskilled photographers are not a good combination!

Next up this this ruffled, cold shoulder top in pink. I saw this top on other bloggers and loved it but not at full price. So I had it in my shopping cart and when it went on sale for $35 it became mine. I do that often when I want something but I want to wait for it to go on sale, it’s like having the saleslady hold something for weeks, lol. For reference I bought a small but a medium would have worked too. This top is a nice, thick material so it will work practically year round here in Florida. If pink isn’t your color this one is the same price and comes in black, as well as black and white stripes. This is another one I say SNAG! When I put the top on to take pictures I noticed a very small, snag that will develop into a hole.  I called Nordstrom and they are sending me another, so back this one goes!  I am excited to wear it, the best part is that Nordstrom is sending me the new top now, before they actually receive my return – I’m telling you they have the best customer service!

Finally, I bought this pair of Toms peep toe booties on sale for $72 originally $108. I also had a $20 Nordstrom Note to apply to my purchase so the deal I scored was almost half price! Toms are known for their comfort and I am hoping they will work for me. I bought the natural color, if you are thinking of getting these do so quickly; sizes are selling out. Mine have not arrived yet but when they do I’ll report back about the comfort factor. After reading the reviews I was sold. Plus on Friday my blogging bestie Andrea shared her favorite peep toe booties which just happen to be a pair of Toms as well. She looks adorable in hers!

So that’s what I’ve been buying lately. While I am still firmly planted in hot, humid weather it’s hard for me to get excited and actually buy clothing for cooler temps. I buy pieces I can wear now and later and I am always on the hunt for a sale, I simply hate to pay full price so I’m always working an angle, hahaha! Check the links at the bottom for a few more tops currently on sale that I love! The best thing about shopping at Nordstrom is the free shipping and returns. Did you know that you can return Nordstrom purchases in person at Nordstrom Rack? Well, you can. I’m sharing this for my local friends who are in the same boat as me. The closest Nordstrom is a few hours away but we have Nordstrom Rack in Winter Park and by the Millenia Mall. This comes in handy if you shop online but don’t want to wait for a return to be processed. Just thought you’d like to know!

Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday! Can you believe this is the last week of August? Holy cow, September, here we come!

Short Kimono

Hello friends and happy Friday!
It’s no secret I love a good kimono, remember this post where I shared several from my collection? I am pleased to announce I have added a new, shorter kimono. If you aren’t really sure you could wear a kimono this one will change your mind. Since it’s shorter and more similar to a cardigan it may be well within your comfort zone. And for those of you who fear you’ll look like Mrs. Roper (Jack, Chrissy, and Janet’s neighbor on Three’s Company) this short length will send your fears packing! I am also loving the colors in this beauty. Throw it on over a tank or camisole and it practically styles itself!

Take a look for yourself. I am wearing my slim utility pants along with an old blue peplum tank, my go to comfy wedges , my squash blossom necklace (similar) and my new kimono.

When the temperature is 9 million degrees a kimono is an easy layering piece to add a little panache to an outfit. Wear a kimono in place of a jacket or blazer to stay cool and update an ensemble. You probably own a few pieces you wear with a jacket; why not try a kimono next time?

The length on this one is perfect! I can wear it with pants as I have here, jeans, skirts, and even shorts. The sleeves are sweet as well with that little bit of ruffle.  This kimono is from Target and it’s their Know Rose brand.

Here’s the outfit minus the kimono. I like it this way too. My pants are the perfect neutral and so comfortable. I love the higher rise, no more muffin top!

My peplum tank is from Anthropologie and it’s a few years old. This one is similar and on sale!

I hope you like my new short kimono as much as I do! Have you jumped on the kimono wagon yet? I hope my post inspires you to try one if you haven’t already. You’ll love the result I’m sure! Thanks so much for stopping by, have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you back here on Monday!

Jump(suit) for Joy

Did you happen to see Monday’s eclipse?  I hope everyone wore their protective eye wear and suffered no permanent damage.  I was able to borrow a pair of authorized glasses at school and steal a glimpse.  Our school district was adamant that all outdoor activities get cancelled and that no one should be allowed outside.  That lead to about half of our student body staying home, I think all the hype at people scared to be out in the sun period.  It made for an easy day at work and I was thrilled our district didn’t cancel school because then we’d have to make up the day later when we really need a day off.  Having fewer kids at school meant I could spend more time chatting with the ones who were there.  Let me tell you, kids tell it like it is; they are brutally honest and they have pretty high expectations for me and how I look!  Especially our kindergarten students.  To be fair, they see a lot of me.  In the mornings I have duty on their hall, I have kindergarten lunch duty, and in the afternoon I have kindergarten car duty.  Besides their classroom teacher they see an awful lot of old Mrs. Rohr.

At lunch duty on Monday they asked me where my earrings were.  Until they asked I hadn’t realized I forgot to wear any!  Then they wanted to know why my nails weren’t painted. When  I told them I’m not real good about painting my nails I got an eye roll and was told, “all big girls paint their nails” and “Mrs. Rohr you HAVE to paint your nails and wear earrings by tomorrow”!  Bossy, right?

So in honor of my kindergarten friends, I’ll share the outfit I wore on Monday, the day of the eclipse.  I went for comfort first because in addition to the eclipse we had vision screenings for three grade levels and guess who runs that show?  Yup, you guessed it, this girl right here.  The jumpsuit I am wearing is one I’ve had for a few years and it’s from Old Navy.  I love the print and the fabric because it’s colorful and lightweight. I wear a lightweight jacket with it to work because it has thin straps and the top is too bare for school.  It washes like a dream and never needs ironing #keeper.

This jumpsuit in black is similar in style to mine. It would look great with this linen motorcycle jacket or this denim jacket. A pair of cute shoes, like my wedges and a fun necklace like this one or this one would finish this look off perfectly!

Do you have a jumpsuit that is so comfy and easy to wear you jump for joy? If not, give it a try. With some fun accessories you’ll feel as comfortable as if you were wearing pajamas but you’ll look fabulous!

Bright Pants

Bright colors make me happy and today I need some of that! On Saturday we did the college drop off and while it was easier this year than last, my heart is still a little sad. To combat that I’m choosing to focus on fun, happy things and today’s outfit does that. I’ve shared these pants before but I’m not done yet! This time I’m wearing pretty basic pieces and adding a little fun with my accessories. Nothing I’m wearing is brand new so I’ll link similar pieces but my guess is you might already have something in your closet that will do the trick!

If you haven’t noticed, sleeves are all the rage these days. Everything from cotton tees to silk blouses seems to have a fun sleeve. If you are looking to update your wardrobe, buy a new top with a fun sleeve. This tie back ruffle top is a great basic and it is currently 60% off!!!! Every wardrobe needs a white blouse or two and this one has sleeves that add a little flair to what could be a boring basic. Pairing a basic white top with bright pants is easy, right? Most of us, when faced with an interesting color pant or skirt, will gravitate towards a white or black top because it works, right? So to keep things interesting add in some fun accessories.

Most of my colorful necklaces come from Accessory Concierge. Visit their site and sign up for their emails, they often have great sales! I love their fun, colorful, beaded necklaces. Both of the necklaces I’m wearing today come from them. The shorter, turquoise necklace may be a little more daring for those of you who feel you need to match colors in your outfit. For you I have my longer, silk tasseled necklace – it brings in turquoise and has a bit of the magenta color in the tassel. I threw on some colorful bracelets too.

You knew I’d be wearing these wedges because I can’t help myself. They are so comfortable, I know you’re tired if hearing it but it’s true! Don’t mind my missing head in this picture, I decided to cut it off because I looked silly but I wanted another shot with the tassel necklace.

Here’s what I know to be true – when you mix and match different pieces from your closet and add in a new color with accessories you NEVER have to worry about someone else wearing the EXACT same outfit! Give it a try.

I’m including a couple of pictures from our college drop off. Last year our son lived in a dorm. This year he’s moved into a townhouse with three other guys, one being his roommate from last year. The complex reminds me of Melrose Place – do you remember that show? I loved it. Anyway, the complex is old but has some charm. Last year I cried like a baby after we left and even days later when I was alone. This year I am determined to focus on the positive. I am in good company with a few of my blogging besties – Andrea and Lisa. It’s fun to share experiences such as these important events with others. If you have a son or daughter headed off to college please know I feel for you and with you, here’s to a great year!

Pink for the Ages

I look young in this picture right? Finally, all my anti aging skin care is working! It’s about time. Bwah, hahahahaha!!! Really, this beauty is my niece Carly, a soon to be 13 year old, lacrosee lovin’, super smart girl with a heart of gold. Today she’s joining me for a little fashion fun.

About a month ago I had the pleasure of back to school shopping with my darling niece Carly. Now that she’s a little older we’ve started this new tradition. Last year we had lunch at the American Girl Store and went shopping. This year we went shopping and out to dinner. Now that she’s a 7th grader she likes places like Francesca’s and Hollister, our days of Justice are a thing of the past! The good news is that I love Francesca’s too, so shopping is extra fun! On our first outing we picked up two super cute tops for her. While she was in the fitting room I spied this pink beauty because as you well know I have an affinity for all things pink! I was determined to shop only for her so I put it back on the rack. Then two weeks ago we went shopping again, this time she grabbed the top and tried it on, it was so cute on her! When we went to check out we discovered it was 40% off. You know what that meant, I grabbed one too! Is it okay for your almost 50 year old aunt to wear the same top as you? Carly thinks so, so today I bring you pink for the ages! Get ready for picture overload…

Do you think that some colors are too young for women of a certain age? Sometimes bright pink is thought of as a young color. But for me pink is a state of mind, it makes my heart happy and I try to reach for it whenever I can. As you can see, I styled my top differently than Carly did. My outfit is work appropriate but could easily work for a night out. Carly looks ready to take on whatever 7th grade has in store for her in her cropped denim and comfy sandals. One thing is for sure about this top of ours, it is versatile!  I was unable to find our top online so check below where I’ve linked some fabulous tops for a similar look!

Just like some colors are thought of as ‘young’ so are some stores. Take for example, Forever 21. I don’t shop there often, in fact most of the time I buy online from them. In the past when I’ve been in the store and I’m headed to the fitting room I feel like I’m getting the side eye from the moms who are in there with their daughters. Almost like I can hear them saying, “Really lady? Grow up. Forever 21 is just a name they don’t really mean it!” or “Scram! Head on down to Loft or Chico’s!” It doesn’t really bother me though because I’ll shop where I like and buy what I like.

When I was growing up my mom, my sister and I always shared clothes and shoes too. We had three times the wardrobe which was awesome! Now, as a mother of boys, I have no one to share clothes with but I sure do enjoy shopping with my niece Carly. Through and through I am a boy mom but God blessed me with three nieces to get my girl fix!

So, what do you think? Does hot pink work for any age? I think it’s all in the styling of a piece. I’m not trying to look like a teenager and Carly definitely isn’t trying to look like she’s 50! While we’re wearing the same top we styled it differently so I say it’s a win for us both!  I am wearing a very old pair of black dress pants from Express. These are similar. I’m also wearing my go to wedges and my favorite necklace by Kendra Scott.

Thanks so much for stopping by! If you enjoyed this post please consider sharing it with a friend, I love new followers.

Have the best weekend friends! We are headed to Gainesville to take our oldest son (Nolan) back to UF to begin his sophomore year. While I’ll miss him like crazy I feel pretty good about bringing him this year. Last year was filled with so much uncertainty. When we left him there he looked like a deer in the headlights. This year he’s going to be living in a townhouse with three other friends and he knows what to expect. I know what to expect too!

I’ll see you back here on Monday!

Magenta Flame

Last week I shared two different looks featuring my blue, bell sleeve top. I’m back today with a third, and I might add my favorite look! This one will be perfect when things start to cool down or the air conditioning at school works consistently. You won’t believe this but it was 93 degrees at 6am last Wednesday morning! I kid you not. And the air conditioning gets turned off at our school every night (and all weekend) and doesn’t come on again until about 6am the following morning. We spend a good part of the day waiting to cool off. And forget Monday mornings, it’s bedlam! Needless to say I am in no hurry to wear pants any time soon! But when I’m ready I’ll reach for these magenta flame  beauties! My bell sleeve blouse (similar blouse  )works well with these cropped pants from Macy’s. They are under $23! Of course I am wearing my new shoes and a blue necklace.

These pants are pretty terrific. They are pull on pants! Isn’t that crazy? But they are super comfortable and have enough stretch to pull on and still hold their shape if that makes sense. The price is right too at under $23!

Remember how I shared that as long as I wore a dark bra with my top it wasn’t see through? Yeah, well, you may notice that in these pictures I’m wearing a nude bra. Oops! I won’t make that mistake again, lol.

Lately there’s been a lot of talk about transition outfits. For me, this is about as transition as I can really get. I’ll wear something like this until a cold front comes through and I need to temporarily wear something warmer. So if you’re like me in a very warm climate, check these pants out. They work now and they’ll work with boots later. I can’t wait to wear them with a black sweater or tunic and tall black boots! I’ll blend in with my office, hahahaha!!!

You’ve seen so much of this bell sleeve blouse (similar) now, are you feeling like you need one?  Did you take advantage of the sale at Loft last week?  How about my wedges, are you ready to give them a try? I’ll tell you how comfortable they are – on Monday (the first day of school) I went to the movies in the evening. After a long, hot day at school I came home and changed and it felt so good to slip on  these beauties! They are seriously the most comfortable wedges I’ve ever owned. And guess what? Last Friday we were at the funeral of our best friend’s father and you know what? Our friend’s 20 year old, college student niece was wearing the very same wedges! See? I am super cool! Cue the eye roll from my son!

Thanks so much for stopping by, it’s always a pleasure to hear from you! Here’s hoping your Wednesday is wonderful and you get your shop on!

Almost Laughable

Almost laughable.  That’s how I’d describe last week.  Mostly because I spent the Summer trying to organize a decent blogging schedule, figuring out what I need to do and how I need to do it.  I even had some crock pot meals prepped and ready to go in anticipation of my return to work.  And then the bottom fell out.  Seriously every thing that could go wrong seemed to and at one point I thought no one would even believe all of this is happening, it’s almost laughable.  You name it, it happened here. Fortunately this is a new week and I know it will be better than the last. Here’s to new beginnings!

Today is the first day of school.  For me that means lots of excitement on our campus.  We’ll have parents in and out of our building all week.  Pictures will be snapped left and right and everyone will try to look their best.  Myself included.  Most likely I will not sit down until somewhere around 11:30 so I chose something comfortable and cool enough for all the running around I’ll be doing.  I have morning duty in our kindergarten hallway, one hour of lunch duty, and then kindergarten car duty.  Between those duties I’ll be calming crying and anxious children and then making sure all of our students are tagged properly with how they’ll go home.  Our administrative teams shares these duties so I am not the only one who will be completely wiped out by the end of the day!

Here’s what I chose for my first day:

Even though this Lilly Pulitzer dress is a cover up it’s long enough to wear as a casual dress. It’s also cool enough and super comfortable.

We took these photos a few weeks ago and I chose to wear my new wedges but I will wear my flat sandals to school with this dress. I think the heels make it just a little too short.

The color pink just makes me happy so whenever I can I wear it! I don’t mind at all that this dress screams Summer because it still is! We’re all hot, sweaty messes by the end of the day with our temps in the mid 90’s.

I’ll still be wearing Summer clothes for awhile to work. It’s just too hot not to. The best part of that means I can take advantage of all of the end of season sales! Labor Day is right around the corner and I plan on taking full advantage of all the great deals that will be offered, how about you? I know many of my readers live in warm weather states just like me. Shoppers unite! This is our time!

The start of a new school year, the start of a new week. I’m ready for some new beginnings and the promise that comes with all of those possibilities. Life is never without obstacles but it’s how we maneuver those obstacles that dictates our outcome. For me, I dig deep, I pray, I ask for help, I laugh when I face adversity. It’s what keeps me going, how about you?

Have a fabulous week and I’ll see you back here on Wednesday friends!

Thursday Moda

Surprised to hear from me on a Thursday? I know, crazy, right? Today isn’t just any Thursday though, it’s special. My sweet friend Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood is on vacation and she reached out to a few of us to help her out. I am thrilled to co-host Thursday Moda with some fabulous ladies! My co-hosts are Chrissy of Granola and Grace and Kristin of Countdown to Friday. Be sure to follow along and add your link at the bottom, heck while you’re here be sure to check out some of the blogs in the link up and discover some fabulous posts!

As you can see I am bring back the blue, bell sleeved blouse which is currently 40% off at Loft. Yesterday I showed it with a skirt. Today I wanted to share another way to style it so you really get your money’s worth!

This time I paired it with longer, white shorts. In my casual work environment I could wear this outfit and be appropriately dressed. Navy and white look so crisp and clean together. I decided to add a turquoise necklace for interest.

My shoes are on serious repeat around here and I hope you’re not sick of them yet because I love them! After months of wearing nothing but flats I have found my sole mate (see what I did there?). I love a wedge and these are neutral enough in color to go with everything!

Now it’s your turn to link up with us! If you’re not a blogger then click on some of the thumbnails below and discover some wonderfully stylish women!

How in the world is it only Wednesday?  I feel as though I’ve lived a year this week and we’re only on day 3!  I’ll tell ya what, adjusting to my work schedule has been a challenge, I’m not sleeping well at night because I have a million thoughts running rampant.   On top of that I was afraid I was getting sick but thankfully I’m feeling better!

This blue bell sleeve top (similar)came home with me in June when I went birthday shopping at Nordstrom.  Honestly I haven’t worn it much this Summer but I knew it would be perfect for work. I was attracted to it because navy is one of those colors that works in any season and I adored the sleeves. The fact that it is almost like an eyelet fabric means I won’t overheat either! The good news is that the few times I’ve worn it I have not had to wear a cami underneath just a dark bra.

While there are so many pieces this top will pair well with in my wardrobe I have returning to work on my mind so I chose a blue floral skirt. This skirt is super old from Target (like 3 years?) but I love it. You know what else I love? You guessed it, my new shoes! Ya’ll these are so comfortable! I wore them from 7am until 8:00pm on my first day back to work and not once did I have the urge to kick them off. They are worth every penny.

My necklace is old too but the color was a perfect match to the skirt. Having a great pencil skirt in a fun print gives you lots of styling options, it can be dressed up or down.

Mixing old pieces, like my skirt and necklace, with new pieces like my blouse and shoes is like clicking the refresh button my computer. Suddenly I have a whole new look. Taking a piece with a classic cut like my pencil skirt and adding the on-trend blue bell sleeve blouse updated my look. See, you don’t have to spend a fortune to be stylish. I have come to realize it is necessary to invest in comfortable, well fitting shoes but it’s not necessary to spend a fortune on clothes. Since my pieces are old, I am linking similar items for your shopping pleasure!

Thanks so much for stopping by, I appreciate each and every one of you sweet readers and I love reading and answering your comments. Have a marvelous Wednesday and shop on!

Kellyann
