Jean Shorts

Every Summer I ask myself if this is the Summer I retire my jean shorts.  And by that I mean wearing all jean shorts not just one single pair because I own a few.  Maybe it’s because they seem so young and I’m afraid I’m too old.  Maybe because I’m afraid I style them “too young” or look like I’m trying too hard.  I’m not sure of the reason but I go through this every year.  So now as I get ready to usher in my final year of 40’s at the end of the week I’ve come up with a resounding “No” as this year’s answer.  Take that age appropriate fashion rules.  In your face.

So this pair is a few years old from American Eagle.  They are slightly distressed and I love the color.  They are also super comfortable and happen to be my favorite pair.  In fact as I type this I’m not sure why I don’t reach for them more often.  Today I am sharing two ways to style them, both are relaxed because I can’t think of a way I could possibly dress these shorts up.  I’m sure there is an uber cool blogger who can but I know my limitations.

The first look is sort of Boho inspired.  My top is old from Forever 21.  I don’t really shop there anymore for myself.  Of course if you’re willing to put in the time there are some great pieces to be had.  I own a few things from them that have stood the test of time.  This top works well with the shorts and my tassel necklace.  Wearing my favorite espadrille wedges from Gap. This stone fringe pendant for under $12 would look great. This top would be the perfect color to pair with the necklace in turquoise! Of course a cute hat like this fedora for under $20 would be a fabulous and functional addition!

My second look features a new top I picked up at Loft over the weekend. I just adore this top. It’s soft, I love the sleeves, and the color is so pretty. I knew when I saw it I would wear it with my jean shorts but I know it will be great with white denim as well.

What do you think of wearing jean shorts over 40? Actually I should ask what you think of someone who is almost 50 wearing jean shorts. There are so many hard and fast rules in our everyday lives, do we need to follow them when it comes to fashion? I think not. For me at least as long as I feel comfortable in what I am wearing I will wear what I like. I hope you will too. That’s what’s in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today!

Graduation parties, weddings, showers, awards ceremonies – any of those on your agenda?  This time of year our calendars fill up and we’re left wondering what to wear.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a new outfit for every occasion? Unfortunately that’s not my reality.  The dress I’m wearing today was purchased last year from T.J. Maxx. I had planned to wear it to a graduation party but when the time came I opted for shorts. I changed my plans once I found out that the party was a little more casual than I had thought.  In retrospect I wish I’d worn the dress; it would have been cooler!  By this time in May we are already experiencing muggy weather.

What attracted me to this dress was the cut but also the seersucker fabric and the detail down the front. It looked very “Lily Pulitzer-ish” to me but it was in my price range!  Truth: I own a few Lily Pulitzer pieces.  Second truth: they were all purchased at consignment shops!

Since the dress (similar) never made it’s debut last year I pulled it out this year to wear to our school’s awards ceremony. I present a few awards so I like to look nice. Normally I wear a black dress.  Although I’m not sure why. Maybe it seems more formal?  Who really knows but this year I decided to break with tradition and wear this simple seersucker shift dress (say that 3 times fast).  I wore my new block heeled Vionics and kept my jewelry simple too.  Both the dress and the shoes held up great.  I had my son take these pictures at 6pm Thursday night. I had been dressed like this for 11 hours! I received several compliments not only on my dress but on my shoes as well.  Incidentally this dress is so similar and at a very reasonable price!

Seersucker just screams Spring and Summer to me. It’s such a classic especially in blue and white. It would be terrific for Memorial Day as well depending on your plans.

I’m also happy to share with you that Nordstrom’s Half Yearly Sale is going on now through June 4. I’m so excited because my birthday plans include a trip to Nordstrom in Tampa (2 hours away – boo!).  This weekend I’ll be putting together a shopping list of what I’d like to see at Nordstrom. You can shop the sale here. Also, Accessory Concierge is having a 30% off everything sale now through Monday! I LOVE their clutches, bracelets, and tassel necklaces!

Beach Essentials

With the Memorial Day weekend just days away (cheers for a 3-day weekend!) you’ll undoubtedly be headed to the beach or pool.  While the thought of putting on a swimsuit may not be a pleasant one there are lots of other fun essentials to focus on!  I had originally planned on a swimsuit post awhile back but all of the suits I ordered from Athleta ended up going back.  I promise to get to swimsuits at a later date but for now let’s talk some of the other essentials you’ll need to enjoy a day at the beach!  I’ll apologize in advance for how dreary these pictures look. Unfortunately the weather is overcast and there’s no sun to be found. But we need all the rain we can get so I will not complain!

In addition to a swimsuit I think a cover up, flip flops, a hat, a cute beach bag, and of course sunscreen are essential. I own several cover ups and only a few swimsuits. My criteria for a cover up is fairly simple: I’m looking for something cute that won’t break the bank. A few times I have considered spending a little more on a cover up and this just may be the year I pull the trigger since we are taking a 7 day cruise. I love this one because it looks like it could easily go from the beach or pool to cocktails or a casual lunch.

Flip flops or other sandals are next on my list. I like a rubber soled shoe so the sand can easily be rinsed. Because of the foot pain I’m still dealing with I’ll be wearing my wedge flip flops by Vionic. They are pricey but I need the support they offer.

When it comes to a hat I prefer something with a brim to protect my face and ears from the sun. Isn’t this one from Express adorable? But this one is probably the one I’d choose. I like the price and the style!

A few months ago I had Kohl’s Cash so I used it to buy a new, cute beach bag. I’ve had a few in the past but they were never quite big enough. Now that my boys are older they can pack their own beach bags so mine only needs to hold a few towels, sunscreen, a change of clothes (for me only), and a small cosmetics bag. I’ll stash my driver’s license and a credit card in the cosmetics bag. This one does it for me, I love the size of the bag but the tassel detail is what sold me! For under $20 this one is a great option and how fun is this one? Great, affordable options!

Sunscreen is super important! We usually buy spray sunscreen to reapply once we get to the beach but I like to apply my first coat before we leave the house and that needs to be a lotion. Especially for my boys, of course I am met with a lot of resistance from them on this one but nothing spoils a great day like a bad sunburn. And nothing ruins a life like skin cancer! Looking for a sunscreen for your face? This one would be great alone or under make up. Honestly when I plan on spending the day at the beach or by the pool I like to wear It Cosmetics CC cream. It has an SPF of 50 and stays put all day.  Since I wear make up pretty much everyday (girly girl) it seems weird if I don’t wear any. I also wear lip balm but usually pack other cosmetics to wear if we plan on going to dinner after our day at the beach. Since we live about an hour from our favorite beach (New Smyrna) we usually head straight home to unpack and rinse everything off.

Other essentials for me include a good book, an umbrella and comfortable beach chair. Gone are the days when I laid in the sun trying to get a tan; now I’m all about avoiding the harmful rays. Of course good company and yummy snacks go a long way in making the day a terrific one!

We’ll be spending Memorial Day at the beach with friends and I am looking forward to a relaxing, beautiful day. Are you planning a beach trip soon? If so I hope my list of beach essentials comes in handy. That’s what’s in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today!

Happy last Monday of school for me!  We have 7 school days left and counting and I for one am ready!  The temperatures are creeping up and so is the humidity which means I am looking for every opportunity to keep cool.  Today I am sharing an outfit I wore over the weekend for a night out with friends. We went to dinner at a Japanese restaurant and then back to their house to play cards and visit. This outfit proved to be the right choice, like Goldilocks’ porridge I wasn’t too hot and not too cold even in the restaurant!
Now before we dive into the details about the outfit let me explain a few things. First of all we don’t usually take inside photos for the blog but we were leaving earlier in the day and I thought the lighting outside would be an issue. So we snapped a few inside but they weren’t great.  So we went outside and as per usual the wind picked up and my hair looked crazy! We took a few and then headed out.  When I sat down to look at the pictures on Sunday morning I can see deodorant marks on the romper.  Now you realize the limitations to my photo editing skills because I have no idea how to fix that! Haha!  All I can do really is laugh because it’s always something, right? So anyway, I bought this romper last year at Old Navy. At first I was skeptical about how much I’d actually like a romper but it turns out I like this one just fine!  Similar to a dress except there’s no worry when the wind blows that you’ll be exposed and easy to style. Initially I was concerned about the hassle I’d face in the restroom but it’s fairly simple and doesn’t really bother me at all. And if there’s one thing about me it’s that I spend a decent amount of time in the restroom because I drink a little over a gallon of water a day!

Because I can’t stop wearing my new turquoise necklace (similar), I wore it too.I love turquoise with black. My favorite pompom clutch from Accessory Concierge also adds color and fun. There are so many cute clutches out now, I have my eye on a few! Take a look at this one, this one, and this one. My birthday is in a little less than two weeks and I’m thinking of getting this one.

I wore my new block heel Vionics. The footbed on these babies is super comfortable. You’ll notice they have a velcro closure.I wasn’t so sure how I’d feel about velcro but I actually like it because it allows me to adjust the straps for the best fit.Even more than a buckle. Yes, they are expensive but it’s worth it to be comfortable all day.If you need a cute shoe and you have any kind of foot pain or discomfort check them out. Especially if you are on your feet all day! Listen, I know these are not the typical heels I would reach for but they are a fantastic compromise.

Since my exact romper is not available any longer I did a little searching and found some fabulous options for you!

This romper is similar to mine and this one is even better because you can wear a regular bra with it! This one is so pretty in this vibrant color and I love the lace yoke top. There’d be no need for a necklace just great earrings and bracelets! Here’s anothergreat one to try. Looking for an off the shoulder romper? Try this one! The embroidery detail on the top is so pretty and on trend! I think this one would be great as a swimsuit cover up too. I want to snatch up this jersey romper,if only it came in a different color! How adorable is this plus size option? The color and the ruffle detail have me giddy!

We are taking a cruise in June and I’ll definitely be packing my romper. I can dress it up with heels or keep it extremely casual with my flip flops. An easy, breezy romper and fun accessories are in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today, what’s in yours?Do you own a romper? Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a fabulous Monday!

Friday Favorites – Separates Edition

Friday, Friday you handsome devil, I’ve been waiting on you all week! This week has been fairly busy as we wrap up the school year and I am ready for a low key, relaxing weekend. Tonight we have a banquet for my son’s ACE (Architecture,Construction, and Engineering) program but the rest of the weekend is WIDE OPEN! Woo hoo!

Since getting my white ruffle sleeve top and gingham shorts I’ve been scheming different ways to wear them! It’s what I love about separates, so many possibilities! Today I am linking up with Andrea, Narci, and Erika for Friday Favorites – Separates Edition.

Here’s how I originally wore the shorts and the top earlier this week:

My first combination involves styling the gingham shorts in a slightly dressier way, you know, one for more of a girls night out or date night. I recently purchased this black top from Glamour Farms Boutique (online). This top is super cute and is on SALE!!!! I will be wearing my new block heels once they arrive but for now I’m wearing my cork wedges.  For fun I added my trusty old pompom clutch. I seriously love this bag!  You’ve seen this necklace before because it’s one of my favorites. It goes with everything and instantly adds a little something special. When I travel it’s the one necklace I bring because it’s a wardrobe staple for me.

The white top is so easy style in so many different ways. Who isn’t always on the hunt for a short sleeve white blouse? I love the sleeves, they’re so special without being fussy and the tie detail in the back adds a little interest. Since I showed it before with the gingham shorts I thought I’d wear it with a skirt this time. This skirt is super old and from Target, but I still love it.The quality is outstanding, really, I’ve had it for like 4 years now and it has held up so well.  I added a simple necklace and a low wedge heel (similar pair). This is exactly the kind of outfit I wear to work.

As much as I love a dress I love having separates that can be mixed and matched to create endless possibilities. By simply changing out accessories the same pieces can be worn casually or for a dressier occasion. So today, hard working separates are my Friday Favorites! That’s what’s in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today!

Black and White Gingham

Welcome to Wednesday and luckily a much shorter post! Thanks to all of you who read and commented on my Monday post. I know it was long but I just can’t help myself sometimes!

I mentioned the outfit I got at Loft over the weekend, taking full advantage of the 40% off sale for cardholders. To my surprise they were also giving out savings cards and I scored two! By the time they go into effect I’ll have birthday money burning a hole in my pocket and I’ll be ready to shop. Actually that’s just silly because I’m generally always ready to shop! So take a look at the gingham shorts and white ruffle sleeve blouse. I also added the turquoise necklace and my new Vionic flip flops. I can hardly wait for the other pair of Vionics to arrive! I have been wearing my original pair every single day since I got them back in March. For a girl who is used to wearing heels all of the time it has been torture but my feet feel so much better I guess it’s worth it. Besides, I have found that wearing my Vionics all day to work allows me to wear fun shoes when I go out without too much discomfort. Take a look!

I really like the top! The sleeves are so feminine and fresh. I am still trying to adjust to having to tie the back in two spots, I keep getting my hair caught in the ties! But this top can be worn with so many pieces in my wardrobe so I think it’ll be worth it!
On Friday I’ll show you another way to style these same shorts so be sure to pop on back, ok? Black and white gingham for Spring, it’s what’s in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today!

Perfectly Imperfect

Oh Monday, you came all too soon! Wonderful weekends like the one we just had have me anxious for the end of the school year. There are 12 school days left here but who’s counting? Apparently me! Glad you’re joining me today for a Mother’s Day weekend wrap up that’s all about the perfectly imperfect plans I sometimes have. Let me just start by saying I hope you enjoyed Mother’s Day;I know it may not be an easy day for everyone but I hope you were able to feel love, remember love, and give love to those around you.

I should also tell you that as cliche as it may sound the best Mother’s Day gift for me is the health of my children. You see, 17 years ago when my youngest was just 6 weeks old and my oldest just two we had a scare that put it all in perspective. We had gone to church that Mother’s Day and came home to relax. My oldest, Nolan, felt a little warm so we took his temperature and sure enough he had a fever. We gave him Tylenol and he crawled up on the couch and napped. My husband was on the couch next to him and I was on the glider nearby with our younger son, Collin. We had all dozed off when all of a sudden we woke up to Nolan having a seizure, he had never had one before. My husband grabbed him and I jumped up with the baby and called 911. Within minutes a fire truck, ambulance, and another rescue truck arrived and our family room was full of paramedics. We spent the rest of the day and night at the hospital. Turned out to be a virus that caused a febrile seizure. We felt blessed that our son was okay but it was scary. The very next year our younger son had a stomach virus on Mother’s Day that landed him in the hospital a few days later. He became dehydrated and spent 24 hours with an IV. So pretty much any Mother’s Day that doesn’t involve a hospital visit or stay is okay in my book!

You’ll laugh when I tell you that both of my boys actually had colds this weekend, and yes, I ask myself what’s the deal with sickness and Mother’s Day in this house, lol! We kicked off the weekend with a happy hour at one of my very favorite restaurants, Mitchell’s Seafood Market. They have a great happy hour menu and we were able to sit outside which we won’t be able to do much longer. For reference it’s been around 95 degrees. As much as I miss the days when my boys were little it’s very nice having two designated drivers to chauffeur us around!

Saturday was shopping day! Remember my Mother’s Day wishlist? We decided to go shopping so I could decide what Vionics I preferred and try to make that list a reality. Our older son, Nolan, accompanied us because he loves to shop. Our younger son, Collin, spent the day in bed nursing his cold/allergies with the hope that by doing so he’d perk up later. We had plans to go out to dinner and then head to the beach on Sunday. But let’s get back to the shopping, I need a pair to wear to the beach and you know I wanted this pair!  After trying on a few pair I ended up with:

I loved the espadrilles and my husband liked them too but they weren’t as comfortable as the block heel pair. Unfortunately I had to order the heels because they didn’t have my size so I should have them soon. I tried them on in black so I know how good they feel!  I promise you’ll see me wearing them just as soon as they arrive. So yes,I had planned on one pair and ended up with another!

Our next stop was Loft,my husband and son just love going there, lol. At this point Nolan left us to head to his stores. I was hoping to snag the shorts I tried on the other day but since we were at a different mall and a different store I found some new loves! Here’s what I chose:

I think the gingham shorts are going to be so versatile, and I am a sucker for anything gingham. The white top is adorable,my only concern is being able to tie the back!

Last week I mentioned the sale at Accessory Concierge. Since my Mother’s Day wishlist included a turquoise necklace I took advantage of the sale and ordered this one.I love it!

Saturday night we went out to dinner with my parents. Collin didn’t feel up to going so he stayed home. At this point I texted my friend to tell her there was a good chance we’d be skipping the beach. And as luck would have it that’s exactly what happened. We traded our trip to the beach for a visit to the walk in clinic with Collin. Turns out he has bronchitis so we made the right call. My husband and I just chuckled, really, what in the world is it about our kids getting sick on Mother’s Day? They really are generally healthy but it’s kinda crazy, right?

Guess what? I don’t even care about missing the beach. Sure it would have been nice but I am happy to be home with my boys. Spending the day by the pool, playing cards together may not have been our initial plan but it’s just what the doctor ordered (literally!).

Did you take advantage of the sale at Loft? Or for that matter any of the great sales in honor of Mother’s Day? I hope you had a wonderful weekend and can appreciate those times when things are perfectly imperfect! That’s what’s in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today!

Friday Favorites – Teacher Appreciation Edition

Happy Friday friends!  What a week.  I am so ready for the weekend, especially this weekend since it’s Mother’s Day.  I hope each and every one of you reading this right now has a fond memory of your mother and if you’re a mother yourself than I hope you feel loved.

So I’m calling this week’s round up of Friday Favorites the Teacher Appreciation Edition but I hope you don’t mind if I include some other favorites too!  Our school actually celebrated last week and boy, did we get spoiled with goodies.  Ending the week with Cinco de Mayo just about did me in as far as food goes.  I swear my clothes are tight!  I am still working out each day but food is such an important part of the equation.  Like 80% food and nutrition and 20% exercise.  I wish it was the other way around but…

Friday Favorite #1 – Being thought of on Teacher Appreciation Week.  As an elementary school guidance counselor I have interaction with most of our 700 students.  I know most of them by name and I remember crazy details about them (like teachers they had in years past).  And I certainly have my fair share of students I see daily.  My job is to eliminate emotional barriers that impede learning, so that means for some students I calm them when they cry, or offer counseling, basically I am a soft place to land. So when a student takes the time to thank me or acknowledge what I contribute to their learning experience I am all kinds of touched.  This year I received flowers, plants, a gift card, yummy candy, delicious cookies, and  perhaps the best gift ever this sequin pillow.  It is actually quite calming as you run your hands over the sequins.  Since I received it last week I’ve had several visitors come in just to pet the pillow!  The little girl who gave it to me said it was for all the crying children I see to use. When I thanked her mom she told me she got it from the 5 Below Store. I’m thinking I need to get more!  I am sharing two pictures of this “favorite” pillow so you can see how much fun it is to play with the sequins!

Friday Favorite #2 – I love to read and when I find a good book it consumes me (in a good way).  I try to read 2 or 3 books a month when possible and I like to order them from the public library.  That means that sometimes I have several books show up at once but I read quickly so it’s never a problem but I am always on the hunt for a good book.  I joined The Blended Blog for an online Book Club and it’s been terrific! One of the best books I’ve read this year is Jodi Picoult’s Small Great Things. If you haven’t read it yet I hope you will. So eye opening!

Friday Favorite #3 – Recipes from other bloggers!  For Cinco de Mayo we hosted a dinner for our best friends (my husband & I met in their wedding).  My menu came in large part from this post by Shelly who blogs over at The Queen in Between. The margaritas were to die for (and I don’t normally drink them), the queso was fantastic, and the sopapilla cheesecake was scrumptious! And then on Wednesday night I made Andrea’s Easy Shepherd’s Pie . It was so good, my family loved it and I had seconds. Which leads me to Friday Favorite #4.

Friday Favorite #4 – Tabata Workout. Listen I’ve been working out regularly for 17 years. To keep from getting bored and to keep getting results I need to change up my workout. My gym bestie Lorie and I have tried just about everything. We are always updating our workouts and challenging ourselves. For the last few months we’ve been doing blogger Tracy Hensel’s Tabata Workout. It is killer but I know I’m getting a great workout and even though it is torture the feeling I have when it’s done is addicting. Check out Tracy’s blog for more information about Tabata. It’s no joke but Lorie and I both swear our bodies are changing for the better (even if I eat too many cookies sometimes). If you’re interested in what we do specifically I’ll be happy to share our routine. When we’re done we are completely soaked in sweat, seriously this is a challenging routine so if you’re looking to shake up your workout look no further. Head to Tracy’s blog and follow her on SnapChat. I’m addicted to her snap stories but they’re so good!

Friday Favorites #5 – On Monday the graduating seniors from our high school came back to walk the halls in their caps and gowns. It was beyond moving! When our school opened in 2005 they were in 1st grade! It was amazing to have them back! Our kids lined the hallways with signs and posters congratulating them and they handed out a lanyard with advice to each and every one of our students. My eyes teared up way too many times that day. It was by far my favorite event of the week! Check out some of the pictures!

Shorts at Loft

On Monday I stopped in Loft and tried on a few pair of shorts.  Initially I had planned on posting this on Friday but Loft is having a sale and I wanted you to be able to take advantage of my ahem, “research”.  With the code LOVEMOM you an take 30% off your entire purchase or 40% off if you use your Loft card. The pictures are not great but you’ll get the idea.  I was actually on my way to an appointment so I didn’t have too much time, just enough to grab a few pair and snap some selfies!

For reference all the shorts I tried on are in my usual size at Loft, a size 4.  And I didn’t buy anything that day, I was in a hurry and waiting for a sale (like the one going on now code LOVEMOM).

First up are these navy Eyelet Shorts.  I chose them because of the eyelet, so pretty!  They zipped up on the side which I don’t like, I always pinch my skin and this time was no exception.  These will be super cute on someone just not me, I felt kind of “meh” about these.  They really didn’t do anything for me.  I grabbed this top (sorry I couldn’t find it online) to try on with all of the shorts.  I wasn’t sure if I’d like the shirt untucked or sort of tucked.  Sort of tucked just makes me look boxy and untucked makes me look sloppy. Sorry about the side shot but I wanted you to see the zipper and hook.  You can see where the seam of my white denim left a nice imprint on my leg, almost looks like a scar.  I will say that the eyelet was very pretty and they will be darling on the right person!

This next pair of striped side tie shorts were a nice, lightweight fabric.  I thought the tie on the side was cute but once I had them on I felt like it was a little too revealing. Again, these are going to be adorable on someone just not me!  Oh, they run kind of big too. They have an elasticized back so you can see in the one picture how far I was able to pull them out.  Not that I go around pulling my waistband out but these were just too stretchy -outty for me.  These shorts are available here.

Oh these turtle shorts were great!  I have never owned anything like these so I thought I’d give them a try and I’m glad I did.  I also like them with this top, fun pattern mixing! These Sea Turtle Riviera Shorts have a 6 inch inseam. I think these look the best on me as far as shorter shorts go. The fabric was thick without being too heavy so I feel like they’d hold their shape and not bag out.  I think the shirt looks good tucked in.  The Riviera short is classic Loft.  Each year they offer these in a variety of colors and prints, if not for blog research I would have immediately gravitated towards this cut. The side view isn’t too bad, my tummy pooch is courtesy of Cinco de Mayo and Teacher Appreciation Week, lol!

Finally we have these Bermuda Roll Shorts . I love a longer short because it covers the parts of my legs I don’t love. With a longer short you need to be careful it’s not too long and it’s not too baggy or tight in the leg. These come in a bunch of different colors, 7 to be exact. I’d buy them in this blue color and wear them in place of denim shorts. They can easily be dressed up or down. I’d wear them to work with a camisole, jacket, and wedges.

Short Story

Living in Florida means it shorts weather pretty much year round.  With so many different lengths shorts can be worn in a variety of settings.  Although I actually feel cooler (temperature wise) in skirts and dresses sometimes it’s just nice to throw on a pair of shorts.  If it’s windy I’ll opt for shorts immediately to save myself embarrassment.  But here’s the thing about shorts and me, we don’t always get along.  Wanna know why?  Spider veins.  Yes, I have spider veins all over my legs.  ALL OVER. Wearing shorter shorts just seems to call more attention to something I don’t enjoy seeing.  Over the years I’ve had sclerotherapy (injections) as well as laser treatment.  Not only are they expensive and kind of painful but they need to be repeated yearly because I develop more spider veins.  I guess I’m vain (see what I did there?) because I’m self conscious about them.  My best friends are self tanner and Sally Hansen Airbrush legs.

Today I’m sharing a new pair of shorts with you. These are the shortest shorts I’ll wear, in fact I really debated getting them.   After all I do believe shorts are a necessity when it’s so brutally hot.  So if you’re like me and there are things you wish you could conceal when wearing shorts then maybe you’ll get a tip or two from me.  Let me also say that if you have varicose or spider veins and they don’t bother you one bit and don’t interfere at all with your wardrobe choices then I aspire to be like you!  Seriously I admire that self confidence and I’d like to develop it.  In the meantime here’s how I deal with shorts!

Since these are so short there’s no way these would be appropriate for work and I wouldn’t wear them out to dinner, unless it was a very casual restaurant.  I would wear them possibly to a theme park, to run errands, or just hanging out at home.  They are fun!  I picked these up last Sunday. They’re cute, lightweight and perfect to bring on vacation with me.  It may be hard to see in the photographs but the shorts have little gold pineapples on them, so cute for Summer, right?  So if I decide to go with a shorter short like this one self tanner is a MUST.  I also avoid cuffs on shorter shorts like these because they add width to the part of my leg that’s already wide.

I added a new top from Target along with my espadrille wedges from Gap and one of my very favorite tassel necklaces.  Here’s a hot tip for you:Accessory Concierge is having a Mother’s Day Sale! With code MOM you can get 30% off your entire order. Such a great deal!  The top I am wearing  can be found here.  I tried it both on and off the shoulders, it looks better off the shoulder but I’m ok either way. For size reference I am wearing a medium in the top.

Bottom line when it comes to shorts you should wear what you’re comfortable in. Don’t let age or anything else dictate what you wear. Every woman deserves to feel her best and when you’re confident and happy you are the prettiest, right? A short story is what’s in This Blonde’s Shopping Bag today, how do you like to wear you shorts?
